The Capitol announcer spoke over hushed static.

Something so rare nowadays, and it’s the name of our beloved Girl on Fire! Has there been a comment from her yet? This might be the love story for the ages, star-crossed, a mentor and a tribute not even from the same District—”
Katniss barely heard them. Her own mark smarted on her chest, pulsed in her skull like a wound.
On-screen, Clove licked her cracked lips. And then, raggedly, she whispered.
“Katniss… please.”Or,
