    Summary

How Neuvillette and Wriothesley met times and times again, in ballrooms, in meeting rooms, working for the future of Fontaine, investigating in its rainy streets or catching a break in between their duties.

And how they fell in love in the process, slowly, absolutely.

(aka a canon compliant sloooooow burn aimed for a happy ending)

    Summary

‘Last and not least, our famous reporter, Charlotte, was partly involved in the case and even managed to obtain what so many of her colleagues before and now tried with no avail: an upcoming, exclusive interview of Chief Justice Neuvillette!

This is unprecedented, and it would be safe to say this interview is going to be widely expected from our readers!’

Following up the recent Threat Letter Case, quiet has not quite returned in the streets of Fontaine.

Indeed, the news of the unapproachable Chief Justice Neuvillette accepting a journalist's interview request raised a new tide of excitement; to the chagrin of most of his work relatives.

After all, how someone with so little human common sense can perceive the trickery of journalists' questions?

    Summary

“Lots of nerdy dudes with intimacy issues keep fish tanks.”

When Neuvillette learns how close Wriothesley came to being killed by the Primordial Sea, he finds his desire to care for the Melusines (diligently and from a safe emotional distance) has expanded to include the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide.

It’s not that odd. Neuvillette can do his best to help this particular human thrive, just like he’s done with the Melusines. It will help him better understand humans in general, which will help him better understand his purpose.

Surely he’s never going to have to think about it any more closely than that.

    Summary

Little should logically connect Neuvillette and Wriothesley, beyond business and paperwork. Each hides behind their own kind of shield, one of distant impartiality and the other of cold humor. They operate in separate worlds, with different tastes, different manners, and vastly different methods.

And yet neither of them can seem to manage such a distant sort of relationship. Their stories continue to intertwine, and without really meaning to, they draw one another in, until their orbits are practically aligned.

Around them, Fontaine’s prophesied demise looms, dragging long buried secrets to light and testing the both of them in the process. As the flood draws nearer, they will have to confront not only this tentative warmth between them, but their own flaws, fears, and wishes as well.
