Summary
In the end, the most he was able to grant them were such paltry parting gifts, desperate glimmers of light flung into the dim murk of an uncertain future: A spell. A charm. A flower.

Summary
He tentatively put the jam-covered finger into his mouth, immediately tasting a wonderful flavor from his other half's jam.
Sweet.
A taste that he knew he loved the moment it reached his tongue. A taste that he knew could be a horrible addiction. A taste that he knew would be his downfall.
Or Pure Vanilla struggled to accept what he was born with, not knowing that his other half very much delighted in it.

Summary
What lingers first in Pure Vanilla’s memory are two eyes— cyan and blue.
They were not simply colors, not merely shades to be catalogued among the blossoms that lined the Vanilla hills. They were shadows caught in ice, stars buried in snow. And in the middle of all that frost, a boy who looked too small for the crown that would one day press against his brow, eyes too large for the timid boy who held them.
Pure Vanilla had not known then that love could strike so young.
He had thought it the sort of thing that bloomed late, like the orchids that only flowered when the sun coaxed them after patient months of waiting.
But with Shadow Milk, it was not coaxed— it was immediate.
Pure Vanilla is six, and he knows he's in love.
(It never changes)

Summary
The apocalypse has come and gone, and against all odds, Pharloom remains standing. The time has come for Hornet to return to Hallownest, accompanied by friends and allies: Shakra hopes to explore the mythical land beyond the wastes, and properly lay to rest a member of her own tribe; Lace fears unraveling without the aid of a Weaver, while contending with the immensity of a future free of her mother’s threads; and the Green Prince lives only only to spite the Citadel, passively seeking a more honorable end than might be found in the rubble of his homeland.
Meanwhile, Hornet returns from Pharloom with magic and knowledge that might aid in the slow recovery of Hallownest and Deepnest–and perhaps offer the chance to call home the sibling she once thought lost to her forever.
