Summary
Only moments before, he had been running, pushing his battered body beyond its limits. The forest echoed with the sound of his feet pounding the ground, but he could hear his tormentor behind him through the branches and undergrowth.
Then it happened.
Tommy had tripped. His foot had caught on a root, sending him crashing face-first onto the waterlogged earth. He should not have tripped, but the rain was in his eyes, and there was a bleeding gash on the side of his leg, and his pursuer was closing in and—. He had scrambled around to face the stupid smile that loomed into view. It stared into his soul in that uncanny way it always had. Dre—his tormentor—had pressed a boot to his chest, and then—
Tommy had died.
Again.
But this time, things were different. This time, there was no limbo, no revival by Dream. No, this time, it was his mother who had held him close as he sobbed and promised to take him somewhere better—somewhere safe, where he could heal and be happy. But also somewhere where all he had learned in the struggle to survive would not be worthless.OR: Tommyinnits mother sends him to Gotham City to heal and find family. Tommy proceeds to be stalked and adopted by Gotham's local vigilantes :)
