Conner groans, curling forward over his stomach with his head in his hands. “Where’s this?”
“Oklahoma.” Not even close to home. “Wanna tell me what you're doing in Oklahoma in the middle of a field?”
Conner waves a hand. “Was with Tim. It gets fuzzy after that.” He sighs, pulling his eyes open to stare at him blearily. “Oklahoma?”
“Oklahoma,” Clark confirms, and decides it’s safe to approach now. There are three cows sitting around him, and they blink at him with the same kind of I-guess-this-is-happening confusion as Conner. “At least you found some friends.”

Summary
Things had been good for Conner since the court awarded him personhood two and a half years ago. He's finally graduated high school, and he's even going to college at Metropolis University once summer ends. He's determined to make the most of his break to spend time with the people he cares about and to celebrate just how far he's come.
These plans fall by the wayside when Clark begins to inexplicably seek Conner out each night and forget what he's done by morning. Conner finds himself adrift in a world in which nowhere is safe, no one can help, and nothing he does ever changes the outcome. Is there any way out that won't further victimize them both? And does Clark really believe the things he says when the sun goes down?

It wasn’t so bad back then. It wasn’t an addiction, not yet. It was manageable. He had it under control. But the lines were still there. The uneven skin. When Jason arrived and started making it a habit to run away to Dick’s apartment, that’s when the lying started. Jason would ask about the scars, the bandages that Dick was too tired and out of it to remember to hide, and Dick would lie. He would tell his brother that it was nothing but remnants of fights. Jason was young but he wasn’t stupid. Dick knew he would figure it out if he saw what was under the bandages, if it became too frequent, if they were there all the time.
