“You said that I’m not dead because of you,” Suguru began, wincing as he leaned forward a little more and tugged off his boots. “Explain exactly what that means, fish.”
Immediately, the creature looked terribly offended. “I’m not a fish.”
“Half-fish, then.” Putting his boots aside, he wobbled to his feet, grabbing the nearest tree to balance himself as a rush of lightheadedness flooded his brain.
“I’m a merfolk, obviously,” the creature said, clearly displeased. “My name is Satoru. And you are?”
Fine, I suppose I’ll play along. Won’t hurt to pretend. “Suguru.”
“Suguru,” the merfolk repeated. “That’s a nice name, for a human.”
