She could feel him there—His warmth, his restraint, the way he was holding himself back like it physically hurt. His heart was loud in the only way she could perceive it, fast and unsteady, pulling towards her despite everything.
Then she stepped back, aware now of the scattered presence around them—her students, the faint, curious thrum of their hearts.
“For the old times,” The earthbender said quietly, “I hope you’re able to keep it together and say nothing to the others. Remember that, before anything else… we’re friends.”“I remember.”
___When the Avatar sends him a letter asking for his help, he’s just excited to see his longtime friends again, having no idea that his future would be decided the moment he lays eyes on a certain earthbender.

Summary
Seven years after the end of the Hundred-Year War, in the heart of the newfound territory of Republic City, Toph Beifong deals with the fact that she had peaked at the age of twelve. Resorting to underground fighting rings and reckless deals with the serpents that lay in the shadows of the city, her life had become a constant search for adrenaline. It's when Aang and Katara grow concerned for their friend that they reach out to a young firelord for help, or rather, offer it.
Firelord Zuko took over the throne from the clutches of his tyrant father years ago, but he's still cleaning up the mess Ozai made. In the rather anarchical city of Yu Dao, he is in desperate need of someone to bridge the gap between the two bending communities that make up its population. But it's when Toph arrives in the city that his focus tends to stray more often than not from his duties.

Spicy fanfic of Toph and Zuko from the newest movie.
The story takes place during and right after the fight with the denied who has gained airbending abilities from Taga. I was inspired to write this from that specific scene where Zuko catches Toph midair after she’s ripped from the earth by denied airbenders.
