“Come on, man," Hayden teased. "Don’t tell me you’re jealous of her.”
“I’m not jealous,” Shane insisted through his teeth. “I don’t get jealous.”
Hayden blinked. “Shane, buddy, my guy, you’re the most jealous person I know.”Or Shane has never been a jealous person. Until Ilya Rozanov and his group of ex-situationships came along.

Summary
Shane approaches the door where Ilya is playing with Anya on the bed. He doesn’t say anything, he just stands in the doorway, phone hanging limply in his hand and the colour has drained from his face completely.
“What is wrong, Shane?”
Shane looks down at his phone. His eyebrows have fallen in confusion, but it’s the look in his eyes that makes Ilya’s stomach drop.
“Um, I think you need to read these”

Summary
“Can I tell you a secret?” Mom asks.
Shane nods immediately. He likes secrets. Especially from his mother. She knows everything about everything.
“It doesn’t matter what they say or do,” she tells him. “The only thing that matters is what you do on the ice.”
“Score lots of goals?” Shane clarifies, since eleven-year-old boys do all kinds of things on the ice.
“Score lots of goals.” Mom nods with a grin. “The ice doesn’t care who you are, Shane. So, you go out there and give it your everything. Then nothing else matters.”
“You promise?” Shane whispers.
“I promise,” Mom tells him firmly. “If you’re good on the ice, they won’t care who you are off it.”

Summary
He knows it was a perfect storm of their youth, their naivety, and their competitiveness that caused the rivalry to spiral into what it became. It was an insanely good story for a league with two teams that were struggling to make the playoffs each year and needed something new and exciting to revitalize their frustrated fans.
Sure, there were many times throughout their early years in the league where they would purposefully rile each other up enough for their rivalry to feel pretty fucking real. Or got each other so annoyed that Shane might've dropped his gloves if he were the type of guy to do that sort of thing. Sometimes he wanted to slam Ilya hard into the boards less to protect the puck and more to avenge his heart over an unanswered text. But if they had just allowed themselves to feel the feelings they wanted and hadn't been forced to appear to hate each other? Well. No one would be talking about a Hollander and Rozanov rivalry almost ten years later.
The public still believes there is a rivalry. One they are trying to put an end to.
