“I’ll be there,” Gus promises. Again, he rakes her with that nakedly appreciative look that makes her belly clench. “Although, for tonight I was thinking about more than just a chat, Miss Mag’nesson.”
Oh. Well, maybe he is here to proposition her.
There is a part of her that really wants to accept. He’s a good two feet taller than her and broad as a battleaxe and handsome in that way that’s not too handsome, that says he does something with his life that’s not just for looks.
“You just got poisoned,” Murray protests. “You nearly died.”
King Gus laughs at that. His laugh is rich and spontaneous and from the belly. “This is how I know you haven’t been on a battlefield, Ms. Mag’nesson.”
Murray wrinkles her nose. “The hell’s that supposed to mean?”
“I mean,” King Gus says, “that if you’d been on the battlefield, you’d know– that right after you nearly die is the best time to fuck like rabbits. Helps you remember you’re alive, you know.”

Though Murray Mag'Nesson is not someone he would like as an enemy, if recent events are to be believed. She saved his life - what, four times back there? Maybe five. He had been woozy from the poison. It had gotten a bit hard to keep track.
