"...How could you die? Just like that?” Jiang Cheng was screaming into his shoulder and clinging to him with a deathly grip. “I hate you! I hate you! I hate-”
All of a sudden Lan Wangji’s eyes shot open and he bolted upright. The dark mist shot out of his body and disintegrated into the air around them.
Lan Wangji coughed, talking in big gulps of air, as Jiang Cheng recoiled from him as if he’d been burned.
“What the-” Jiang Cheng stared at him wide-eyed.
Lan Wangji, distracted by the shock and pleasant surprise at avoiding his seemingly inevitable death, took a few moments to process why Jiang Cheng was looking at him with such a horrified expression.
And then it hit him.
“Oh.”

“Psst. Lan Wangji.” Jiang Cheng whispered, discreetly nudging his brother-in-law who was also sitting at his table. Jiang Cheng knew him well enough to tell that Lan Wangji was just as bored as he was, though it was far less obvious on his blank face.
“Mn?” Lan Wangji answered, trying his best not to take his eyes off Sect Leader Yao, and feign paying attention.
“I’ve noticed there’s always these two asshole cultivators that bad-mouth pretty much everybody at these Conferences.” Jiang Cheng hissed.
Lan Wangji paused, perplexed, “...Really?”
Jiang Cheng vigorously nodded. “I’ve heard them multiple times!”
“Who are they?” Lan Wangji asked urgently, glancing around the room to seek out the perpetrators.
“Me and you.”

Summary
Lan Wangji opened his mouth to respond, but suddenly someone else burst into the library.
It was Jiang Cheng.
Lan Xichen was astonished to find that his robes were soaked and his hair was mangled. He was taking in large gulps of air and there was a fierce scowl on his face as droplets of water dripped from his uniform to the floor.
Lan Xichen would’ve never verbally made a comparison between his husband and a water demon but-
“Wanyin-?”
“He pushed me into the Cold Springs!” Jiang Cheng yelled, glaring at Lan Wangji who pointedly avoided his gaze.
Both Lan Xichen and Wei Wuxian froze, looking back and forth between their brothers, waiting for Lan Wangji to refute Jiang Cheng’s claim, but a denial never came.
(5 instances where JC and LW make up a chaotic & petty pair...and somehow end up raising a turtle army (cult?) along the way.)

Summary
All of a sudden, Lan Wangji found himself choking on a mouthful of snow, courtesy of Sect Leader Jiang. Jiang Cheng cackled at Hanguang-jun’s scandalized expression, but his laughter was short-lived as Lan Wangji retaliated and spit the snow directly into his face. Lan Wangji’s rare smile appeared once more as he watched Jiang Cheng sputter and flail his arms in disbelief.
“You’re shameless!” Jiang Cheng hissed, furiously scrubbing his face.
“You started it.” Lan Wangji shot back.
“You’re the one who put snow down my robes in the first place!"

Lan Xichen’s lips quirk. “I thought that might be your reaction,” he murmurs. His tone is teasing when he reminds Jiang Cheng, “Your brother doesn’t have enough money to be able to afford to play pranks like this on you.”
It doesn’t go unnoticed to Jiang Cheng that Lan Xichen has sneakily slipped in the fact that he knows who Wei Wuxian is to Jiang Cheng, even though that information wasn’t volunteered.
