“Hey, I know that one!” Mike grinned, taking it from her and rolling the thin stem in between his thumb and index finger. “We had them back in Hawkins. They’re supposed to be edible.” He opened his mouth unnecessarily wide and raised the dandelion up to it in a dramatically slow fashion.
El snatched the flower back from him and rolled her eyes. “Yes, but you should wash it first - to remove the dirt and bugs.”
“Noted,” he replied cheekily. His face turned softer as he watched her carefully pluck the leaves off the stem and tuck it behind her ear. “You’re kinda like a dandelion, y’know?”

Summary
El runs and she keeps running until she's about as far away from home as she figures she can get. And as the years go by, she manages to carve out a peaceful sort of existence. It's not a happy life, but she's content with the knowledge that the loved ones she left behind are safe and happy.
But while Mike's safe, he's not happy, not by a long shot. He's living a half-life, living under the shadow of the love he lost... of the love he knows is still out there, somewhere, waiting for him to find her.
And when Mike finally has enough of surviving without living and embarks on an aimless journey to find her, El knows her days of isolation are behind her. Because the longer Mike tries to search for her, the more attention he brings to himself and the more likely he'll put himself in danger. So she leaves a trail of breadcrumbs to guide him to her, as always willing to do anything to keep him safe.
And when they reunite in the sleepy village El has learned to call home, they'll learn if they can move past the shadow of the history they share... and if they can rediscover the love that once shone brighter than the sun.

Summary
In the 90s, Mike is still picking up pieces of himself after El left. It's not an easy task, when each piece is a shard of glass, multiplying and cutting the skin.
Then one day, he gets met with the news. He doesn't know if they are bad or good.
El escaped, but it didn't last forever. She got caught, by those she tried to outrun, and they were everything but forgiving.
When she gets rescued, Mike still doesn't know if he should celebrate or cry. But then El wakes up, and her hands are cruel and rough on his skin, her tampered mind fixated on one thing; end Michael Wheeler. That's how he knows which of those two he should do.
