“Stevie?” Eddie whispered. “What can I do?”
“Go back to the couch,” Steve told him. “Lie down.”
He felt Eddie shake his head against him. “Not without you.” His voice was thick through his clogged nose.
Steve was quiet for a moment, apart from the wheezing of him trying to breathe. “Wanted to make you soup,” he murmured eventually. “But I’m so fucking tired, and now it’s gone everywhere and I gotta clean it up and I just want to go to bed.” Steve was almost whining now, and he squeezed the edge of the bench in embarrassment.

Summary
He was about to crack a joke when he caught a glimpse of Eddie’s face. For a split second Eddie looked nauseous, his mouth was slightly open, his eyes were fixed on his trailer, eyebrows knitted together. Then, he was smiling but it didn’t reach his eyes.
“Thank you for the ride, man.”
Steve didn’t play along. There was something very wrong with Eddie but he couldn’t pinpoint what exactly. He just knew there was no chance in hell he was leaving his friend alone.

“Don’t need someone to shut me up,” he says, his voice soft and shaky. “Need you to shut me up.”
Steve exhales, his eyes lowering to watch Eddie’s lips move as he speaks, and he feels too warm even though he’s just wearing a t-shirt.
“Tell me,” he says quietly, holding Eddie in place. Eddie lets out a soft sound, a weak sound, and Steve wants to hear it again. Wants to hear what other sounds Eddie makes when he’s not angry. “Tell me, Eddie.”
