Oat exhaled, turning on his side. “I don’t usually stop at islands like this,” he said softly. “Too easy to get attached.”
Vam met his gaze, his expression softening. The thought of tomorrow weighing heavy in both of their chests. “And are you?”
Oat hesitated, then smiled bashfully. “Maybe more than I should be.”
Vam felt his heart flutter, sitting up and looking down at the sailor. “So... you would have already left by now?”
Oat nodded, looking up at the sky again. “My crew wanted to leave tonight…” He sighed, sitting up too and rubbing the back of his neck. “…But a siren lured me in.”

Summary
A harsh glare met Oat as he emerged from Sigmund's home. His hand flew to his face, and for a moment, he was simply stunned in the cast of his own shadow.
Had the sun always been this bright? He found himself comparing it to the light the doctor had shone in his face as he peppered him with questions upon waking. It was strange to realize he had no other comparison to make. Despite knowing of the sun, he could not recall the last time it warmed his skin as it did now.
When he finally adjusted, his hand slowly fell, revealing the city before him. Tall, haphazard buildings went as far as he could see, all vibrant colors and full of even more vibrant people. The streets were bursting with them—merchants and patrons, elderly and children, all going about their days with habitual comfort that Oat could no longer understand.

“U-Uhm, hello? Some–is anyone there?”
Robert pauses just in the doorway out of the kitchen, frowning. What the hell was Waterboy doing calling in? Everyone was dismissed hours ago.
Robert clicks the little button on the headset. “Waterboy? What’s up?”
Only then does he start slowly making his way back to his desk. The lights are all off, save for the lamp at the corner of his desk, and the warm, dim glow does nothing to help his exhaustion. “W–uh. Hey! Robert, yes–yeah. So I’m just. Well, I-I have a sort of, you know, situation.”
OR Robert's trying to finish up some late-night assignments. Waterboy is a disaster. It works out for them.
