He takes him by the shoulders and turns him around so his friend is facing him, ignoring his struggles, for once using the fact that he's an Alpha and Gao Tu is just a Beta against him. "What is wrong? I can see something is desperately wrong. Talk to me."
"I can't", Gao Tu replies, shaking all over. Besides the sage, there's the rotten stench of fear in the air. Wenlang needs a second to realise that it's coming from Gao Tu.

This was the best way to remember what an idiot he’d been. For months, he’d suffered the pain of loss; but there was nothing more agonizing than knowing Gao Tu didn't want to be found.
