The year is 1955, 10 since he got home from war and 7 since he got kicked off the force. It's winter, and the rain just won't let up. He'd get bored if it weren't for the newest case to land in his lap: a slain patriarch, a fallen starlet, and their prodigal son, all woven together in an ever-growing web of Hollywood scandal, intrigue, and blackmail. It would be a welcome distraction if that prodigal son weren't so nice to look at.
At least, this is how the actor who plays him in the Roger Sheridan Mystery Hour reads the whole situation. During one recording session, his projected fantasy of the detective takes on a life of its own.

The first part revolves around the process and preparations of orchestrating the abduction of victims and the recruitment of accomplices, willingly or not, as the preparatory step for the upcoming debauched festivities.
