I mostly skimmed, but a few scenes caught my attention:
This time when Mater speaks, in the quiet that had settled over the pits, everyone can hear him.
“Are your family here, Lightning?” he asks, in the same exuberant voice he always used.
It’s an innocent enough question, but Doc wants to facepalm, because he knows Mater would never have asked it if he had seen the expression Lightning had been wearing while watching the Weathers’ exchange. But now he’s put the kid on the spot, and everyone on Team McQueen is waiting for an answer, and even some members of Hicks’ team next door have turned.
“Ah, well …” Lightning suddenly looks uncomfortable, his eyes snapping from the screen, and his hands come up to fiddle with the collar of his tracksuit - a nervous habit. “No, they’re not. They’re, uh.”
….
“I don’t know them.”
They wait, but when he doesn’t expand, simply looking down and pulling on the cuffs of his sleeves like a child who’s been caught at doing something they shouldn’t, Luigi hesitantly asks, “You … never met them?”
Lightning shakes his head minutely, still not looking up. “I grew up in the system.”
Doc feels like all the breath’s been knocked out of him.
“So yeah, I’m an orphan– well,” Lightning chuckles lightly, “that’s not true, I don’t think. My parents might still be out there. They gave me up. Maybe they just didn’t want me. I dunno.”
A couple cars speed past them, and Lightning finally looks up – Doc sees his cheeks are flushed slightly – to glance at the large clock that shows 24 minutes until the race begins.* an interesting point, where celebrities rip off the labelling of bottles to prevent favouritism + lightning pouring water over his head
He watches one of the kid’s sponsors – Rusty or Dusty, Doc has truthfully never spoken to either of them at length – press a water bottle into Lightning’s hand, and he rips off the label on autopilot, not to be caught drinking from something that doesn’t sponsor him with cameras shooting him from all angles. He tilts his head back and pours half of the water over his face, drenching his hair, before waterfalling the rest into his mouth, although most of the liquid seems to spill down his chin and the front of his suit. He shakes his head wildly like a dog to flick the droplets from his hair, leaving him with an artfully ruffled look, strands spiky and falling into his eyes.
(Doc suspects that clips of him with water cascading down his face will soon find their way into the more adulating corners of the internet, to be re-edited and slowed down and obsessed over; although McQueen isn’t the youngest racer on the grid by a margin of more than a couple years, a 19-year-old is still more appealing to teenage fans than a man in his early 20s, and a boy with a smart mouth and devil-may-care attitude even moreso.).

Summary
Pearl sighed. She just didn't know what was holding her back or tripping her up. Nothing they’d tried had been working so far and she knew they were both growing frustrated with that. Any time they seemed to be making good progress something would throw them off their groove again. She understood what the issue tonight had been: Rusty had taken the turn faster than he normally did; she’d thrown her weight too much to try and counterbalance him and slipped away from him. Nothing that they shouldn’t be able to sort out. But talking it out and actually doing it were two different things, as they’d proven time and again.

He hadn't even intended any of it. He had gone, after their latest victory, to give them Electra’s congratulations. That was his habit for most races – even if his boss did not send him directly, he preferred to do so. It was good to maintain a sense of civility with their competition, to give their engine an air of being gracious in their defeat (even if that wasn't always the truth).

Summary
After the race, abandoned by Rusty, Hydra helps Lumber and Porter untangle Greaseball, Electra and Slick. He has no idea he's about to get closer to the Electric engine than he ever thought possible, and no idea of what he's letting himself in for. Electra's trying to keep their polycule together as Hydra's addition rocks the boat, Rusty's slowly realising he has a huge crush on his racing partner, and Slick and Greaseball just want to make amends after that disastrous final.

There’s a moment of gentle silence, broken only by the birds chirping in the twilight sun, and Hydra knows he needs to let them go in. He can’t keep them outside forever, much as he might wish to.
Before he knows what’s happening, there’s a kiss being pressed into his cheek, a squeeze of his shoulder and -
‘Visit me? While I recover?’
‘So dramatic... even when you’re flirting.’ Hydra dares to tease. ‘You’ll be fixed up in no time and you know it.’
‘But think of my ego after that defeat...’ and if the kiss hadn’t already firmly sealed the deal, Electra’s puppy-eyes nail Hydra firmly around their little finger.
‘Not sure that can be mended... but keep kissing up to me, and I'll see what I can do.’
