Otherwise Known As: Writing My Own Damn FanficImrath is a lawful good paladin of a dead (newly resurrected) god stuck in Barovia with an unlikely destiny in hand. It’s not what he expected when he left his home to bring order to the world, but he finds himself forced together with a ragtag bunch of heroes (some more unlikely than others) under the thumb of a corrupted vampire lord, and DAMN if it isn't hard to keep up the good humor when shit is fucked, but he’s trying, man.
Somehow, he falls in love with a monster of a man along the way.
In The Interim is named as such beCAUSE it’s a fix it fic from my own IRL game that didn’t get finished. I fell too in love with the characters and the setting and needed to manufacture my own closure, so why not write a novel about it? Some things happened in-game, others I'm filling in after the game fell apart - it's all self indulgent. Enjoy!

Summary
As a child, Ireena’s days were spent in the near-constant company of childish adventure novels, stories of knights and princesses, good and evil. Their simplistic narratives charmed her and she found herself curling up in any corner she could find, leather-bound covers cradled in her tiny hands. She pictured herself on those enchanting quests, clad in gleaming armor, as the knight sent to defeat evil and rescue those in distress. In her mind, she truly could rid the world of evil for good.
This penchant for childish justice often left Ireena returning home, covered in bruises and bearing a toothy grin as she regaled her family with her increasingly frequent tales of epic battles (childish fist-fights) for retribution (returned snacks) for damsels in distress (8-year-old children) from dastardly villains (10-year-old children). Her mother, weak as she was, would shake her head at her violently good-natured daughter, chiding her for being too rash, that issues could be solved with things other than fists.

Summary
Ireena never considered herself a crier. Even as a child, she didn’t see the value in shedding tears and refused to on principle. As she watched her mother be lowered into the ground, she stood stock still, stone-faced, with one arm gripping Ismark’s small, weeping frame. Those around her remarked in hushed whispers about what a brave face she was putting on, how strong she was.
Even so, the moment she saw her mother appear on the boat, she felt the tears she’d never shed sting her eyes. She couldn’t pinpoint why, but would later realize that this was the first time she’d ever seen her mother looking at her and only her. Ireena could only stare at the woman sitting before her, mouth agape. She looked just the same as Ireena remembered her, her soft features a mirror of Ismark’s. Ireena couldn’t see herself in them at all.
___Or, Ireena gets to speak to her mother one last time. She's unsure if she deserves to.

Summary
At the Tser Pool Encampment, two travellers from far off lands have fortunes to be told, but what becomes of their allies? Ireena has agreed to travel with them to Vallaki, where as Ismark has agreed to accompany them to take Doru to Krezk to seek a cure for vampirism. Will the three of them evade the dark forces of Barovia and save each others souls?
I wrote this between weekly sessions because I became rather obsessed with my players decisions to adopt half of the village and begin shipping Doru and Ismark. As a DM this is definitely the session planning I should be focused on. Apologies for the first draft xx

Summary

As Barovia tightens its grip and Strahd turns his attention toward what Ismark would give his life to protect, Ismark learns that love is not a weakness.

"Within Shadowfell there are these places. Attracted to the negative energy, I believe, they attach themselves to the realm. Surrounded by thick mists, they are near impenetrable through conventional means. They are called Domains of Dread. No one knows what takes place within them, though we are sure it is nothing pleasant. It is said that there are dark evils trapped within them." She took a deep breath. "There has only been one Domain anyone has ever got out of. It is the oldest Domain, and it is where all the stories have come from. One of its defining features that always gets repeated is the lack of sunlight. Can you feel it?" She asked the others. "How the light doesn't warm your skin? How the colour is just a shade or two off? This place is horrifying. No Deities can reach here, I can barely feel my Queen." Her eyes begin to water, and she resolutely wipes them dry before tears can form. "I used to remember the name of this place, though it is eluding me right now. That doesn't matter though, what matters is that we need to find a way out of here."
