Summary
Before Jones leaves the crip platoon, John Bowman warns him of the notorious Slovacek of platoon 2032. Too bad there's no one to warn Slovacek about his arrival. Nothing could ever prepare him for the fuel that Jones would add to his fire... or just how capable that fire could spread beyond either of their control.

Summary
First time Sullivan lays eyes on the pretty bartender down at the off-post bar, Howitt catches him looking.
“Nice kid,” he says, over the music, right into Sullivan’s ear. His breath smells of beer, but he doesn’t look like he’s had too many.
Sullivan plays stupid. “What?”
“Cam.” Howitt nods at the bartender again. “He’s a nice kid. Probably queer as a three dollar bill, but he pours a good beer.”
Sullivan’s heart stops. “So what?”
“So, I like coming to this bar. Don’t be an asshole to the kid, right?”
Oh.
“I don’t give a fuck,” Sullivan replies, sipping. But—he does give a fuck, he can’t deny that. The bartender—Cam, apparently—is bright and easy and confident, chattering away to customers at the bar and smiling, his hands moving.
“Okay, good.” Howitt claps him over the shoulder, and moves the conversation smoothly along.
Howitt’s buying, so he goes back and forth from the bar all night, and Sullivan keeps his ass in the damn chair, and he doesn’t look too hard, and he drinks his beer.
No problem.
So, that’s the first time.

Summary
“What about chickens?” he says one day, standing out in the field behind the hotel.
It’s like this: the grass is knee-high, and he’s passively wondering about ticks. Chickens eat ticks, don't they?
It’s sunny, and hot in a near-unbearable kind of way—only, he can’t really bring himself to mind the heat, these days.
They’ve been digging in posts for hours, fixing the fencing, a body-busy kind of labour that Cam doesn’t really mind. It’s nice to hang out with Sullivan, neither of them talking much while they get the hard work done.
Anyway, he’s squinting down the length of the field, leaning on the handle of his shovel, and he says “what about chickens?”

Cam gets a pet chicken. It goes exactly how you might imagine.

Summary
Cam is yabbering away, and Howitt’s washing on autopilot, making noises in the right places and nodding, when Cam says, “but that’s because you don’t love me,” and continues talking, as though Howitt’s not frozen in shock, up to his wrists in bubbles.
Mechanically, he runs his hands under the water, dries them on his pants.
Turns around and leans up against the counter, crosses his arms. “Because what?” he interrupts, and Cam’s brows draw together in confusion.
“What?”
“Did you just say that I don’t love you?”
---
Or, Howitt and Cam clear up a misunderstanding.

Summary
Cam shudders, nods. He takes a slow step closer until he’s between Sullivan’s knees and drops down. Sullivan catches him by the cheek, gentle as a lover. “You make a pretty fucking picture, Cam.”
Not true.
Against his will, Cam flinches back. “Don’t—”
“Don’t what?”
“Don’t call me pretty.” Sullivan is marginally more likely to listen to him than Howitt, who’s more likely to use it as ammunition in whatever crusade he’s apparently running on Cam’s life.
Sure enough, Sullivan sits back a little. His blue eyes sharpen, as they do every time Cam reveals something too personal—an I’m taking note kind of intensity. “Why not?”
Cam gnaws the inside of his mouth. Tastes blood before Sullivan’s grip tightens, effectively stilling him. “I don’t like it?”
“You don’t think it’s true?” As usual, Sullivan reads him accurately, cuttingly.
“I know it isn’t.” Cam shrugs, sits back on his heels. “What, you think I haven’t looked in the mirror any time in the last couple of months? Am I blind?”
For maybe thirty seconds, Sullivan stares down at him, flat-mouthed. Without breaking eye-contact, he says, “Cary, go get me the mirror out of the bathroom.”

Summary
Senior drill instructor, Staff sergeant Robin Harriosn comes from a long line of marines dating back to the day the corpse was founded. Everyone in her family is a marine and the one man who is not, married a marine.
She is a career driven woman who aspires to go to officer candidacy school and become one of the few female generals of her time.
But it appears that misogynistic ideals of a few old white men, dictate that she must make herself into a likable image through marriage.
If only she could find a husband who was just as career driven. A husband who would never want her as a woman, never expect children and for the most part left her to achieve greatness on her own.
There should be at least one man around who would be amenable to that? Right? -

Summary
On the very first week of boot camp, Slovacek has an unexpected, arousing dream where he meets and is seduced by Camille, a female version of Cameron that shakes him to his core in terms of what it actually means about his own sexuality to the point where he's not sure whether to be more terrified or pissed off at the smaller recruit because of it. When random visions of Cameron's alluring feminine form torment him for weeks during the most inopportune moments, including losing sleep over it, he has to decide whether he can get over his internalized homophobia and come to terms with the strange new feelings about the very same recruit he bullied since day one OR keep living in denial and avoiding Cam at all costs even if he slowly loses his mind over it.
OR
The one where I make up my own fake scenario of that specific BTS pic of Slovacek holding Cam in drag as Carnie Wilson from Wilson Phillips to scratch that itch in my brain until the day that deleted scene of Fem!Cam seducing the platoon ever gets released... sigh.

Summary
His silence goes on too long. Something in McKinnon’s expression shifts, very slightly—he reaches out and catches Howitt by the short hair on the back of his head and tightens his grip until Howitt bows backwards onto his heels, mouth opening around a wordless protest. “You want to see me get Howitt to shut the fuck up?” he asks.
“It’d take a miracle,” Sullivan shoots back immediately.
“Oh, fuck you both,” Howitt snaps, and then McKinnon’s grip tightens and he goes quiet, eyes glazing over a little. “Well fuck, okay—okay, I’ll admit it. I want to see you try.”
