Summary: I make this film's characters deal with the aftermath of everyone's choices because this is preferable to an ending text-over that literally disappears its female protagonist.
Alternatively: this is the consequence of me occasionally deciding to rewatch this movie and then deciding that, in fact, I find Isolde's choices just as baffling as I did the first time. There is one (1) man who is dedicated to her happiness in this film, and it is *checks notes* the older man she is bound to in a political marriage, rather than the lover who destroys their trysting place in a fit of manipulative pique. I have questions.
Or: what about the overlooked OFC of the film, the quietly competent woman in her 30s who just exists in the background? What about her perspective on this story?
