Features: an opinionated elderly neighbor, a neighborhood that gives a damn, a word in Kryptonian that doesn't translate cleanly, and two men who are catastrophically bad at being afraid in front of each other.
The longer version:
After the Fortress, after the city's grief and the shaharreth on every wall, Clark Kent comes back to Metropolis and tries to figure out what home means for someone like him.
Bruce Wayne is apparently part of that answer. Clark is working on accepting this.
This is a story about the specific courage of choosing someone who will die before you do. About the difference between happiness and contentment. About the people who show up for you in your building hallway at six in the morning and the people who put a transponder in your cape because they can't say I was afraid for you any other way.
Martha Kent called it. She usually does.

Clark has always loved children. From their easy laughter, hard-hitting ‘why’ questions, and the endless hugs that make Clark day a thousand times better, children were just the greatest gift. It’s not a surprise to anyone that early on they could tell he’d liked a family, or just a little one to call his own.
And being the last of his kind, the urge is there even more, conscious and subconscious.
Resigned to only have fleeting moments with that hope when protecting children as Superman or Reporter Kent, his Kryptonian body declares it’s time to fix that.

It was not actually necessary for Bruce to go over to Clark’s apartment himself. He’d called over comms, and Clark hadn’t answered, but then it was a Friday night. The man had friends, hobbies. It wasn’t pressing, really. He’d had a breakthrough on a case, and he’d wanted to sit down with Clark, explain his theory, see if he could convince Clark to wander into some seedy club with him, look through the walls, give Bruce an excuse to look him up and down and flirt outrageously with the man. Bruce had even gotten past pretending like it was a matter of efficiency. He didn’t actually need Clark to be there, and maybe, if he’d been able to reach Clark on the comms, or on his personal cellphone which the man had not answered three fucking times in a row, Bruce could have kept pretending it was more efficient to get Clark to meet him.
Bruce takes it upon himself to find out why Clark isn’t responding, and finds Clark in the middle of some quality alone time. In other words, unrepentant, self indulging porn.

(I originally started this with Batfleck x Cavill Superman in mind and still picture this pairing strongly. However, after watching the new Superman movie, I am now conflicted and can see this working with Corensupes and whatever Batman the reader wants to pair him with. So long as that Batman is older and beefier than Corensupes.)
