And yet? She’s still here.
Most of the time Jaclyn’s happy about that
But more than a few times, she hates herself for it, because after everything she had done, she really, really didn’t deserve to be the one who got a happy ending.
Why did Pomni have to love her? Why did everyone have to care about her?
It would’ve been easier to give up if they didn’t.
And then Jaclyn keeps moving forward, because despite the guilt, she still doesn’t want to go

Summary
From his mistake causing him to lose the first human, Caine had never been able to do anything about Abstraction. Once a human succumbed, they were beyond his ability or knowledge to fix. He could only put them away where they couldn't cause any further harm. He didn't know of any other solution. And with how much closer he was getting to the other humans, the more that he cared about them on a personal level, and the more the past failures taunted him...
But they were learning more about Abstraction. The dark, the quiet, and the calm soothed them and made them safer to be around. Pomni managed to briefly connect with Jax's fading mind. He clearly didn't know as much as he believed about the phenomena.
If he didn't have the information necessary to prevent or even reverse Abstraction, then perhaps someone else knew. It had been a very long time and humans were very clever. Someone out there could have an answer. He might be able to find a solution to help his humans if he could just learn more. And he'd recently found a new source of information after years cut off from any input.
But abandoned computer systems don't get anti-malware updates. And the internet wasn't as safe as it seemed for an AI...

Summary
Daisy's third birthday culminates in a slightly tipsy Jax passing out in a pile of his own sick. Much to his and Pomni's surprise, it seems like the couple are expecting another child. However, memories of the past plague Jax and he questions if he's truly doing enough as a father and husband. Bowler (Kaufmo) catches onto this, sticking close to the bunny despite their past disagreements. But it all comes to a head when one adventure quickly causes a derailment of Ragatha and Gangle's relationship. Jax in the final stretches of his pregnancy learning that Ragatha's gotten herself pregnant as well brings interesting implications to something that had been previously claimed as a "fluke" by Caine. Perhaps digging into the past might unearth some traumas that the ringmaster hasn't been honest about so far.
