AU based very vaguely off the idea of King Shadow from the Archie Comics ((AKA the author hasn't read anything by Ken Penders and would prefer to keep it that way))

Twenty-five years after Sonic disappeared in the final war against Eggman, Shadow has risen to become king of Mobius and rule over it with an iron fist. He seems to have it all- a loyal wife, a dutiful enforcer, the love of his people- but his resentment for the world around him has only grown, unlike his body, which has remained as small as it did when he was created by Dr. Gerald Robotnik all those years ago.

On the twenty-fifth anniversary of his supposed death, Sonic returns and manages to take him down, but only thanks to the king's "loyal" wife Sally and "dutiful" enforcer Knuckles helping him. The kingdom hardly even mourning his usurpation, Shadow is convinced his end is nigh as he waits for his execution in the castle dungeon, but unbeknownst to him, Sonic and Sally have a rather... unorthodox idea on how to not only rehabilitate the former king, but secure themselves a future heir to their kingdom.

People of Mobius, bow your heads low; here comes King- er, Prince Shadow!

Notes:

This series is a WIP and while it has a pretty strong plot that has gotten way out of hand, at the end of the day I wrote this because I wanted an extra bratty Shadow to be forcibly babied/age regressed/spanked by the rest of the Sonic cast, and after seeing a few panels of King Shadow for myself, I fell in love with the character concept, although I hated the execution of it by Archie/Ken Penders. I truly think a corrupted King Shadow story/plotline can work, but I don't want it to be because he just decided to be evil one day or was evil all along; I want it to be the culmination of him losing Sonic and Team Dark- unarguably the most important (living) people to him in canon, even if SEGA likes to pretend Shadow doesn't have any friends- and going fully off the deep end in his efforts to fulfill his promise to Maria, misinterpreting it over time as him needing to sacrifice his own happiness for everyone else's, evolving into him believing that complacency from the people is as close to happiness as he can get them to. I dunno, I can go on and on about this shit, as you can see from the overall word count on this series 😅
