I definitely wanted this story to have a consistently eerie feel to it, while also being very indulgent to Kakashi despite the fact that he's certain things aren't right. In his narration, he's already sure of it being genjutsu or otherwise, but he falls into it regardless of his awareness.
Also it makes me happy someone caught onto the parallel that was hesitation into impatience regarding the cake and intimacy !! "Just like with your cake" as Obito even regards 😭
