The walk back was quiet. The sky above us faded from gold to blue, and the garden slowly disappeared behind us. Before I left, Sugar called my name. I turned. She stood beneath the fading sunlight. For a moment, she looked smaller. Not like a symbol. Not like a virtue. Just a cookie. A tired cookie.
“Fount?”
“Yes?” She smiled. A genuine one.

Summary
After reading a story halfway, Shadow Milk becomes emotional and promises his mother that she will be the only doctor he will love. Shadow Milk stuck to the promise, especially when most of his admirers just so happened to mention beforehand an interest in becoming a doctor.
Fast-forward to the future, Shadow Milk somewhat forgot the promise, but not his friends. Now, he deals with the consequences.

Once the Fount of Knowledge, then the Beast of Deceit, and now, a Soul Jam-less, powerless wanderer trapped in his own other realm. This unwelcome plot twist had really thrown a wrench in Shadow Milk’s grand plans for vengeance. And to top it all off? Pure Vanilla was here too! To act saintly and get in his way and poke his nose into everything Shadow Milk was trying to hide. Oh joy! Surely nothing bad could happen!
