Months after the Battle of the Five Armies, Thorin and Bilbo decide to visit the Shire, but their cart breaks down halfway to their destination.
Bilbo gets captured by orcs traveling back to Erebor.
Thorin didn't anticipate how hard it would be to keep one hobbit safe in his own kingdom.Written for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Collaboration 2024, using all three prompts.

Summary
The journey to Erebor was a grueling affair, marked by blisters, rain, and the constant threat of being eaten. But for Bilbo Baggins, the greatest challenge wasn't the Orcs, it was the sheer logistical nightmare of being a Hobbit in a company of Dwarves who knew absolutely nothing about Hobbit physiology.
Most folk in Middle-earth knew that Hobbits had large, hairy feet. Some knew they had a penchant for seven meals a day. But very few knew about the ears, and almost no one outside the Shire knew about the tails.

Bilbo could not have explained what he was thinking when he dove between Thorin and that vile creature, except that Erebor could not lose her king now.

Thorin could not say what Bilbo had been thinking when he’d thrown himself between Thorin and death, in part because Bilbo had yet to wake. Once he did, Thorin would be getting answers, and he would wake. Bilbo had to wake.No other outcome was acceptable.

"Grace is sad. Statement."
"No, Grace is not sad. Grace is... moping."
"What moping. Question."
"It's like... you know what? Fine. Grace is sad."
"Because Rocky not come see Grace yesterday? Rocky visit more! Bring Adrian and ridlings."
"I.. No, Rocky. That isn't..."
He slumped forward on his perch, fingers coming up to press against the bridge of his nose. Glasses askew, hair falling in heavy tangles across his back, he wasn't exactly the picture of health and sanity.
"Grace sad because no more missions. No find intelligent life. No mate on Earth and now no chance for mate. Rocky has mate and ridlings. Busy."
Grace stared at him, eyes flat and expression unamused. Rocky's arms raise as he lowers and raises himself, bursting with energy as his voice raises, the clicks and purrs of his actual vocals sounding over the voice program.
"Rocky find Grace mate! Then grace no sad. Yes yes yes."
