“It will do anything you want,” Zemo says.
And that one line is all it takes for Bucky to let himself drown.****
What if Bucky loses himself in Madripoor?
An exploration of how things might've gone differently because of one little word.
Zemo is a little shit (with feelings), Bucky is at his every beck and call (without choice), Sam is So Very Done (with the situation at large)

Summary
In 2024, Bucky Barnes follows a lead about more super soldier serum that takes him to Siberia. He encounters the unexpected and finds himself in 2014, shortly after the Winter Soldier vanished.
This is a COMPLETE, STAND-ALONE story but does have two stand-alone sequels (different timeline branches - one that goes into Falcon and The Winter Soldier's timeline and the other that is post-Age of Ultron). You can head directly from Part 1 into either Parts 2 or 3 (since 2 and 3 are independent of one another).

Summary
The people were staring at him as if he was a fucking Thanksgiving dinner. Some of them whispered something to each other; he couldn’t read from their lips, but he could read something else in their eyes as they were scanning him from head to toe.
They know you by reputation, Zemo said. The question was, by which one.Or: A trashy explanation of why Bucky is immediately recognized in Madripoor, why the Winter Soldier wore eyeliner and never got a haircut, and how the hell Hydra got funding all these years.

Summary
Recovery is hard, and after the bar in Madripoor, Bucky isn't all that sure that he wants it. It's lonely, and it's hard, so when Zemo offers him an out, he takes it. And poor Sam is fighting to get him back.
---
“I can take your pain, soldat. You don’t have to think anymore.” Bucky opened beady eyes again, meeting Zemo’s dominant gaze. “I can give you that.”
Bucky knew he shouldn’t listen. He knew better. He was better, or at least he was supposed to be. They hadn’t even said the trigger words, so Bucky in no way had to comply, but James Buchanan Barnes, above all else, was tired. He was tired of fighting. Tired of thinking. Tired of feeling. It would be easier to just go along with it.
“(Longing),” Zemo said, slowly, experimentally. Bucky winced with the pain of past shocks, but he didn’t stop him.
