Summary
Edward Elric has to be the unluckiest human alive. After saving the lives of hundreds of people (not that Mustang is going to focus on that), his arm and leg are completely destroyed. With his parts on back order for four weeks and no work for him in East City, Mustang has no choice but to send him to the most boring assignment on the planet: joining the effort to reorganize Central Command's Records Room.
It's supposed to be an easy, simple, boring four weeks. But this is Edward Elric we're talking about. Of course he's going to stumble into some trouble. He'll just have to figure out a way to deal with the problem while down two limbs and away from Mustang and the rest of the team.

Whumptober 2023 Day 12: Red/Insomnia/I'm up, I'm up!
He doesn’t care if people snooze in the office. He’s worked his own late, late nights and taken a nap or two on the couches in his office. Havoc has tucked his arms underneath his head and slept through lunches and shifts, Fuery crashing at a table with a bent neck and snores, and even Breda takes a moment or two every once in a while when days get long to rest. It doesn’t bother him. Lives are busy and paperwork is horrendous and sometimes a good nap is a needed recharge.
But Edward has been sleeping in the office for days. Mustang doesn’t think he’s seen him do a lick of necessary paperwork or turned in a report on practically anything the superior officer has allowed him to research. It’s enormously irritating and slightly rude, Mustang feels, that the boy comes in and simply sleeps away instead of supporting the team like everyone else. No one else will wake him either.

Ed's been dozing, and it's pissing Mustang off. He choses to ignore the telltale signs until Ed comes barging in on the verge of a breakdown.
