Notes:

Prompt:

taekook hogwarts au! slytherin jeongguk! gryffindor taehyung!

So I know the prompt also requested established relationship and I promise this fic did start off that way but it sort of ran away and I kind of like what I ended up with so...

Work Text:

Taehyung has always loved Hogwarts in the Summer

The warm rays of sun hit the grounds in a way that makes the place look, well, magical.

Hogwarts is also nice during the winter, when a thick blanket of snow covers every turret of the school. Autumn is beautiful as well, when the ground is covered in leaves that make the most satisfying crunch as he steps on them. Even Spring, when it rains so much that even the mermen in the Great Lake start to complain.

But Taehyung’s favorite is summer, when the air is so thick and warm that all Taehyung can muster up the energy to do is lay down on the warm grass with his textbooks, basking in the warm heat as he tries (and fails) to concentrate on his studying.

And really, he is trying. He has his N.E.W.Ts coming up and he doesn’t know why he even took that Magical Maladies and How To Heal Them class because despite the fact that Professor Seokjin is easily the coolest teacher in the school, Taehyung can barely tell a fibia from a gluteus maximus and that doesn’t exactly bode well for an anatomy centric class.

So he is trying to study.

It’s really not his fault that Jimin had to go and pick a spot in view of the Quidditch Field. It’s also not his fault that the Slytherin team are training on the field.

“He’s doing it again.” Jimin whispers, nudging Taehyung in the side.

“I don’t care.” Taehyung mutters, trying to memorise the incantation for healing a Shaky Leg Jinx. “I’m studying.”

Jimin giggles. “Seriously Tae, how long are you planning on giving him the cold shoulder? He’s really trying.”

Taehyung glances up at the field, where the Slytherin Seeker is hovering on his Firebolt, looking their way. Even from a distance, Taehyung can see the smirk on his face and – was that a wink?

Sleazy bastard.

“You never even liked Jungkook.” Taehyung sighs. “And besides, I’m planning on making him suffer for a little longer.”

Jimin rolls his eyes. “So… you’re giving you boyfriend the silent treatment because he gave you a skiving snackbox when you asked for one.”

“One, Jungkook is not my boyfriend-”

“Sure.”

“-Two. He gave me a skiving snackbox and neglected to tell me that he had removed the sweets which heal the illness. I was walking around with boils for five days.”

“He’s a Slytherin, Tae. It’s in the name, he’s sly.”

“But I expected him to be nice to me.”

“Because he’s your boyfriend?” Jimin laughs and Taehyung just wants to punch him in his face because Jungkook is not his freaking boyfriend. They are acquantancies who occasionally slip into broom cupboards for really heated make out sessions and have had a few hang-out sessions (not dates, despite what Jimin might say)

They are barely even friends. Boyfriends? Never.

Which is why Kim Taehyung has absolutely no qualms about glaring at the Slytherin seeker. It’s glaring. Not staring

Jungkook winks again

Taehyung sticks his tongue out.

Jungkook almost falls off his broom laughing.

Loser.

Breakfast in Hogwarts is a grand affair and despite being in his seventh year, Taehyung has never gotten used to it. Coming from a non-magical family, it’s all a little bit more overwhelming for him. Jimin doesn’t even blink when his goblet is magically filled. Taehyung still takes it all in with wonder.

His favorite part of the meal is when the owls all fly in with any mail. Recently, some of the Slytherins had taken to sending each other howlers and they were always really funny.

Taehyung had actually started to look forward to the daily Slytherin howler, so when a red envelope droppeson the Slytherin table the next morning he isn’t surprised. Until it opens and starts yelling.

“JEON JUNGKOOK” It starts, and Taehyung’s attention is immediately grabbed. “YESTERDAY YOU WEREN’T FOCUSING IN QUIDDITCH PRACTICE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. YOU NEED TO PUT MORE EFFORT INTO SEEKING THE SNITCH THAN FLIRTING WITH YOUR CUTE GRYFFINDOR BOYFRIEND. DON’T THINK I DIDN’T NOTICE. IF YOU DON’T FOCUS ON PRACTICE MORE I’LL SLAP YOUR BOTTOM YOU BAD BOY. OR KIM TAEHYUNG FROM GRYFFINDOR WILL."

The Great Hall is howling with laughter and judging by the fact Kim Namjoon is unable to control his laughter he must have been the one behind the howler. It makes sense, since Namjoon is the Slytherin Captain.

Under any other circumstances, Taehyung would take pleasure from the mortified look on Jungkook’s face as his peers ribbed him, but considering Taehyung had also been named he probably looked just as embarrassed.

Jimin next to him is howling with laughter so hard that tears are rolling down his face and Hoseok, lovely Hoseok, is pounding Taehyung on the back.

“Why didn’t you tell me you and Jungkook were official now?” He asks.

Taehyung shakes his head, his face still beet red. “We’re-”

“Yeah! When’s the wedding.” Hongbin shouts from the other side of the table.

“But seriously guys, I was there!” Jimin is shouting over the ruckus. “They were literally having eye sex.”

Taehyung hangs his head in his hands and grumbles. “He’s not my boyfriend.”

“What was that Tae-Tae, I couldn’t hear you.”

“I said we’re not boyfriends!”

Of course, the whole hall has to go silent at that exact moment, as Professor McGonagall steps onto the podium to make an announcement. She gives Taehyung a pointed look. “Thank you for that, Mr Kim.” She says and the whole hall erupts into another fit of giggles.

As McGonagall starts to announce all the important-y stuff, Taehyung turns to glance again at Jungkook. The Slytherin looks up and meets his eyes for a brief moment but instead of smirking or grinning like Taehyung expects, Jungkook frowns and looks away.

Taehyung sits and wonders for a while why Jungkook had looked like that. He’s too distracted to even follow McGonagall’s speech (it’s okay, he’ll ask Jimin about it later).

It’s usually Jungkook who reaches out to Taehyung to meet up. It has been since the first time the fooled around, four months ago. Taehyung had been staying at Hogwarts over the Christmas period as his parents had booked a ski trip (conveniently forgetting they had a son), Jungkook had also opted to stay at school over Christmas because his crazy auntie was over and apparently all she ever did was tell stories about her role in the Great War against Voldemort.

Taehyung knew Jungkook. The kid was popular and despite being a Slytherin he had a few friends in other houses. Taehyung also did, and as a result they had hung out a few times with friends and chatted.

He didn’t really know the younger well enough to actually initiate a conversation or hang out alone. At least, not until they had bumped into each other a few days before Christmas. Taehyung had been roaming the corridoors annoying the paintings when he fell over, pressed his hand into a sculpture to regain his balance and the wall had opened up into a secret passageway.

Inside there, Taehyung found Jungkook.

The younger was sat inside the tiny little passageway with a notebook and quill, scribbling down Taehyung-doesn’t-know-what. Taehyung had been about to apologise and leave, but Jungkook had just invited the elder in to hang out. “I’m bored and lonely.” He had said.

Despite the fact that Jungkook was undeniably one of the hottest boys in school and Taehyung would be lying if he said he didn’t sport the slightest crush on the younger Slytherin, Taehyung can’t remember how he had ended pushed against a cold damp wall whilst Jungkook’s mouth attacked his, but he does remember laying in bed the next day when a little paper aeroplane flew onto his pillow.

Same place tomorrow afternoon?” It said.

And it had all escalated from there. For the first few weeks it was just the making out and a little bit of heavy petting but then they started hanging out when Hoseok had somehow become good friends with Namjoon during an unfortunate Flue Powder incident which resulted in the two of them stranded in a Cardiff pub together. Once Namjoon and Hoseok got wind of the situation they started to find it hilarious to put the two in a room together and watch how they avoided each other whilst not straying too far away. Even in a crowded room, Taehyung found it difficult to keep his eyes off Jungkook for too long.

Their friends teased them mercilessly over that.

Taehyung didn’t mind though. He had gotten used to the dynamic with Jungkook. Jungkook was in charge, Taehyung was along for the ride.

More recently the two had been hanging out together alone, playing Wizards Chess or studying in the library together (study dates, Jimin called them. “Fuck you.” Taehyung replied. “No, that’s Jungkookie’s job.”).

Through all of this, Jungkook has always been the one to initiate their meetings. Taehyung waits for a note and then dutifully goes to their meeting place and meets Jungkook. He never sends the message.

However, it’s three days since the ‘Howler Debacle’ as Jimin has taken to calling it and Taehyung still hasn’t heard from Jungkook.

He’s worried, because even when they’ve been busy they make time to talk. Jungkook is a really good listener and he’s honest with his words which is what he needs sometimes. He’s been waiting for a note to land on his bed but nothing’s come.

 Taehyung doesn’t like it.

“You’re biting your lip again.” Jimin asks as they walk to their Herbology class. “What’s up?”

“Jungkook hasn’t spoken to me since the thing with the howler.” Taehyung replies. “It’s weird… I’m sure he’s probably just embarrassed bout the howler but-”

“I think he’s probably more upset about what you said. Shouting about how he’s not your boyfriend must have hurt him.” Hoseok comments.

“What do you mean?” Taehyung laughed. “We’re not-”

Jimin stops in his tracks and shoves a hand over Taehyung’s mouth. “I swear to God if you say that one more time.” He sighs. “You guys literally are the cutest couple ever, you literally can’t take your eyes off each other when you’re in each other’s vicinity. You send each other love notes and spend nights in the library in silence. He brings you coffee when you’re studying with me – literally he walks all the way from the Slytherin dorms just to bring you coffee. You skipped class that one time to sneak out to Hogsmeade and buy him candy because he was ill. You got banned from Hogsmeade for two months. You love Hogsmeade!” Jimin shakes his head in exasperation. “If you honestly think that despite all of that you’re nothing then you’re a lost cause.”

“Not to mention the time you got absolutely wasted on Butterbeer and spent three hours crying – literally crying – over how cute Jungkook is. Then you wrote a poem dedicated solely to how he looks whilst eating. We had to stop you from sending it to him in the form of singing leprechauns.” Hoseok blurts out. “How did it go-”

“Jungkookie eating a cookie

I’m so lucky

One day I’ll fu-”

Taehyung slaps a hand over Jimin’s mouth.

“I literally wrote a contract out banning you from ever mentioning that again.”

Jimin rolls his eyes. “The point me and Hobi are trying to make is that you are so far gone it’s unbelievable. Jungkook literally has hearts in his eyes when he looks at you. You two need to talk through this because I honestly think he believes you’re something.”

They stop talking as Professor Longbottom walks into the classroom, and once again Taehyung is going to have to steal his friend’s notes because he keeps thinking about freaking Jeon Jungkook and his stupidly adorable face.

All of the things that Jimin had mentioned Taheyung hadn’t even noticed. And he feels stupid now because it’s clear that over time he and Jungkook have become something more. What had started as something heated and desperate had become something gentle and comfortable. Taehyung looks forward to seeing Jungkook not because of the things the boy can do with his hands (which are amazing) but because of Jungkook’s smile, and his laugh and the way his tongue pokes out of his lips when he’s concentrating. He looks forwards to their conversations over the most pointless things and their comfortable study sessions and the way Jungkook leans into him when he gets too tired to continue reading.

He realises something right then, whilst Professor Sprout is talking about the Guatemalan Badger Spotted Mushroom.

He has feels for Jungkook. He might even-

“I love him.” He announces out loud. Then he laughs incredulously as every student turns to face him. He stands up and raises his arms to the sky. “I fucking love him.”

As he turns and leaves the room he hears Jimin mutter “about bloody time.”

As he slams the door shut he hears Professor Longbottom shout “I won the bet!”.

-

Taehyung knows that Jungkook has a study period when he has Herbology so he runs to the Slytherin dormitory and searches until he finds a familiar place.

“Yoongi!” He pants, out of breath. “Yoongs my man. Have you seen Jungkook?”

“Never call me that again. But yeah, he was going to study in the library. He just left.” Yoongi smirks. “Did you finally get your shit together Taehyung?”

Taehyung doesn’t even give Yoongi a response, he’s already running out of the dungeons to the library.

He’s out of breath by the time he reaches the library and as he’s about the open the doors he runs into something tall and solid. “I’m sorry!” He mumbles as he pulls himself up. He needs to get to the library. He needs to tell Jungkook how he feels-

 “Taehyung?” That voice. It’s-

“Jungkook.” He says looking up into the face of the boy he was looking for. “Thank god I found you. I’ve been looking for you.”

“Why.” Jungkook asks and Taehyung is disappointed to see a frown on Jungkook’s face. Taheyung pulls himself up and grabs Jungkook, pulling the younger boy in for a kiss. Jungkook pushes him always almost as soon as their lips touch. “Taehyung.” He sighs. “Sorry, but I’m not interested in being your hook up buddy any more.” He turns to leave and Taehyung panics.

He drops to the floor and grabs Jungkook’s leg. “Wait!” He cries. “Just… Okay… Listen to me.” He collects himself as much as he can, aware as he is that he is still gripping Jungkook’s legs for fear of the younger man leaving. “You’re not just my hook up partner, okay?”

“Well you made it abundantly clear that we’re not anything more when you announced it in front all the school!” Jungkook replies, he’s clearly trying to keep his voice flat but he loses his composure at the end of the sentence.

“Because I’m an idiot...” Taehyung shakes his head. “Honestly the biggest idiot.”

 “Where’s the lie.” Jungkook mutters.

“Don’t sass me Jeon Jungkook I’m doing feelings.” Taehyung grunts. “I came to find you to tell you that I figured things out with some help from Jimin and Hoseok and I literally ran out of Herbology because I need you to know that I-” He breaks off, suddenly nervous.

 “You what?” Jungkook prompts him.

“Ireallyreallylikeyou.” Taehyung spits out. “Like… really. I think I might be falling for you. Which is weird and scary and everything but you bring me coffee and I got banned from Hogsmeade so that must mean you feel the same and then I wrote a song and-”

 “Shut up.”

 “What?”

“I said shut up. You’re babbling. And let go of my leg.”

Taehyung blinks. “Are you going to run away if I let go?”

“No, you McNugget. I’m going to kiss you.”

 “Oh.”

Taehyung loves the summer at Hogwarts.

One of his favorite things to do is watch Quidditch matches with Jimin. They go to support Hoseok, their teams Chaser and Captain, it’s a tradition that they go to the final match every year. This is the sixth year in a row that Gryffindor have made the finals of the Quidditch cup (and also the sixth year they’ve had Hoseok – go figure).

Taehyung loves screaming cheers. This year is no different.

Well it is a little.

“GO JUNGKOOKIE! GET THE SNITCH!” Taehyung screams from his seat. Jimin elbows him.

“Have you forgotten something?” He asks. Taehyung frowns in confusion so Jimin just sighs. “You’re a Gryffindor. You can’t sit here and cheer the Slytherin Seeker on.”

“But he’s my boyfriend.” Taehyung replies. “I have to cheer him on!”

Jimin just shakes his head and cheers as Hoseok scores a goal.

"At least you finally got your head out of your ass."

The Hogwarts staff room is not a calm place at any time, but on a warm hot summer day it’s even more hectic than usual.

“I said they would get together before the end of the year so technically I won!” Professor Flitwick shouts.

Professor McGonagall shakes her head. “But Neville said it would be before the end of June. His was more exact so he should get the pool.”

“Didn’t Professor Lupin guess the exact date though?” Seokjin shouts over the ruckus. Everyone turns to Teddy Lupin who is calmly sat with a smirk in the chair.

“But he’s the Divination professor. He can literally tell the future.” Neville Longbottom moans. “That shouldn’t count!”

“Yeah I can tell the future, that’s how I know that you’re going to relent and split the pool with me.” Teddy Lupin smiles a bright smile and Neville sighs.

“But look at them….” Seokjin fawns, looking out the window to where Jungkook and Taehyung are. Taehyung’s head on the younger’s leg as they study in silence. The summer sun shining through the leaves almost makes the scene look magical. “Who cares who bet closest. We all bet on the fact that they would get together. We all knew.” He smiles fondly. “I might just fail Taehyung so he has to stay back another year… I want to see more of them.”

The other teachers murmur in agreement and Seokjin knows he’s started something now.

Does he care?

 Not really.
