Present-day, spring 26
İt was late spring,the weather was good and lewis had his beloved Mo- Marnie. His beloved Marnie right by his side,what more he could want?
"Lewis.." said Marnie to get his attention, "When will we come out as a couple? I don't like all this secrecy...And Shane is starting to suspect something is going on, he is not a kid like Jas he is going to catch up eventually."
He would want this conversation to not happen.
Lewis sighed knowing that they had this conversation dozens of times already. "Marnie you know we can't just now, as much as l also want to come out it would cause a scandal for town's mayor to be with one of the residents. What if other town's folk start to think l treat you differently because we are togather?"
As much as it made sense enough to make Marnie drop the topic, İt was just the lie Lewis told himself and Marnie, the real reason was much more diffirent.
35 years ago, spring 7
"Lewis!" Shout out a cheerful woman voice, which made young man's knees weak the moment he heard it.
"Mona!" Lewis turn his back to face the young woman and shout back as much cheerfulness as the woman that call out to him first.
The woman smile widely while running towards to young man in front of her, and what a beautiful smile it was always manage the make lewis's day ten times better. İt was a smile that he wouldn't exchange for any other.
When she was close enough young woman hugged lewis which he did the same happly.
İn front of him was a young woman who had beautiful blue eyes and black hair, and not to brag but it was his girlfriend(soon to be fiance and hopefully wife after that) although she looked little sickly there was no doubt she was the most beautiful woman in the whole world(or so lewis thought)
"Did l made you wait for too long? Sorry l saw the farmer on my way here and he had flowers with him and he wanted to gift me some but l liked all of them and l couldn't choose just one of them and then Evelyn come-"
"Okay Mona wait breath l will listen to you after you catch your breath."
Young woman laughed and sat on the sand to catch her breath, Lewis fallowed her and sat right next to his girlfriend.
"Okay and then Evelyn came and choose for me look." She said while pointing towards the fairy rose that was tucked behind her ear. "Anyways why did you wanted to meet here? I know you're not exactly a beach fanatic."
"Cause you like the beach and l have something to ask you." Young man said while squeezing the mermaid pendant on his pocket tightly.
"Is that so? Well then l'm all ears." Young woman said cheerfully with a hint of curiosity on her voice.
Lewis took a deep breath and start talking, " Mona l remember the first time we came to beach togather, we were still kids but l remember how much fun l had with you, as a kid after that day l thought l will never have as much fun as that day. But l did, you made me feel so much joy that every day l had with you was better than the previous one....Mona l want that for the rest of my..rest of our days,Mona l want to make you happy as much as you made me happy so" he take the mermaid pendant out of his pocket and hold her hands "Mona will you marry me?"
32 years ago, summer 11
"Lewis you didn't really have to stay at home because l'm sick. You should go and attend to Luau, you and farmer were talking about adding clay to the soup right? You shouldnt cancel your plans because l'm sick"
Lewis would cry from his wife's kindness but it was not the time.
"Nonsense what kind of husband l would be if l just leave my sick wife at home while l go out and have fun?"
Mona laughed,although she did wanted him to go out and have fun, she would be lying if she said she didn't want him to stay with her at all.
"Plus it wouldn't be fun without you."
"wouldn't it? But farmer is there l'm sure you would still have fun"
"What importance does fun have if youre not there to have it with me."
And that sum it up why Mona loved him, and also made her think a brilliant idea.
"Well if we can't attend to Luau then let's bring Luau here and make our own soup! We will each have our own ingredient other one don't know about so it will felt like real Luau!"
Needless to say drinking a soup made from fish and banana wasn't a good idea and now Lewis was also sick, but at least they were sick togather.
31 years ago, winter 25
"Can l open my eyes now?" Young mad said impatiently, he was sitting here eyes closed for 10 minutes now and as much as he tried to be patient for his wife, patinece was never his strong suit.
"Yes you can." Said young woman with her usual cheerfulness but with a hint of nervousness.
Lewis opened his eyes to found a box infront of him" What is this? I thought we already exchange gifts wait was there something l forgot? Like an anniversary l-"
"No no Lewis there is nothing..just calm down and open the box please.."
Young man start to unravel the ribbon on the box and open the box there was a one singular stick in the box, when he looked closely he understand what it was.
30 years ago, fall 12
The weather was rainy and it suited for a day like that.
Lewis never though that his days with his beloved wife would end like this but he should've known better, he always knew Mona was always weaker than others, she got tired and sick easly so ofcourse her body couldn't handle something as bard as pregnancy, he knew that he really knew but he was overjoyed when he learned they're going to have a kid and Mona..his beloved wife was even happier than him. So how could he voice his concerns while she was that happy?
Now because of that his days with both his beloved wife and unborn kid come to an end but why his beloved couldn't stay with him for all eternity?
Lewis felt a hand on his shoulder it was farmer and George and Evelyn were right behind him
"Lewis it's getting late you should leave or you will get sick."
His friend and said with a concerned look on his face. And then Lewis just reilazed that he was soaked, but it was no suprise he have been sitting in front of the gravestone that said "our beloved Mona" all day.
Lewis turned his face to the gravestone once again and asked his old friends how will he even live after that, but they didnt have any answer for him.
Lewis let out a long breath and promised to a death person infront of his friends " l promise Mona until l die and join l will never love anyone again like l loved you, please just wait for me and l will come to you...and to our kid"
Present-day, spring 26
Yeah the real reason was much more diffirent...and the worse thing was Lewis didn't know is he was over it or not.
And he knew it was selfish it was also wrong to make Marnie wait for something that may never happen but Lewis was not even sure if he was over his dead wife or he regret his promise, so how could he publicly have a new relationship while he didn't even know if he end the first one in his heart?
