Chapter Text
Elizabeta decided that she did not want to be married to Roderich anymore. There were multiple conflicts between the two, and the later divorce was simply a good choice in retrospect.
Elizabeta sat up from her chair. She walked towards the living room, wooden floorboards creaking as she got closer to Roderich, who was sitting at a piano, playing a tune.
“Roderich.”
The calling of his name made Roderich freeze, his hands falling off of the piano keys and onto the bench beneath him.
”What is it, Elizabeta?” He turned his head to the brunette.
”I…” she swallowed her nervousness, and her brows furrowed slightly. She deeply exhaled. A thick air of tension filled the room.
”I think that we should divorce.”
Roderich’s eyes widened.
”But what about the empire?”
”After the war we’ve been collapsing. It won’t make a difference if we divorce.”
”I don’t…I don’t feel the same love for you I did before. It’d be useless to still be married to you if I don’t love you.”
Roderich’s heart sank.
”Do you hate me? Why is this all so sudden?”
Elizabeta sighed in frustration.
”I just said I don’t love you…I don’t hate you, Roderich. Don’t take it that way. We can still be friends, I just don’t think this is going to work out.”
Roderich pondered for a moment, staring at the wall.
”Well…I guess it’s the only logical thing to do.”
After a few weeks passed by, the divorce was official, finalizing the end of the Austro-Hungarian empire.
Would either of them find love again?
