Gold Rush

Notes:

Had this on the backburner for a long while now. I wanted this to be a much longer story with multiple chapters but after canon events, I didn't have it in me to continue so I'm just going to release it as a oneshot. Shame too, I was hoping to do a Seven Brides for Seven Brothers type of plot but with a twist.

Oh well, hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

“Another round over here, Izuku honey!” Mina, the boss lady of the Calamity Riders called out with her mug rose, followed by the rest of her troupe at the table.

“Coming right up!” the Omegan male called back from the saloon counter and brought over the steel coffee pot to refill their drinks.

“You really should join us on the road sweetie, we could always use an extra set of hands for the stunts.”

The three other omega girls voiced in agreement.

Izuku blushed at the thought, “Aw, I appreciate the offer girls, really. But I can’t just leave my mother to run the inn all by herself and-“

“And there’s a certain alpha he’s been eying up for awhile.” Uraraka smirked into her mug.

“O-Ochako! Don’t say that out loud!” he protested with his cheeks going bright red and swirled around, hoping no one over heard them but thankfully there weren’t that many customers in the dining area around this time, so he was safe.

Toru sighed, “Poor Zuku… hopelessly pinning over an alpha so gruff and rough that he’ll never be domesticated, I don’t see why you would want him honey.”

“For real.” Mina voiced, “He’s not the type who would be so willing to mate.”

“It’s true.” Asui nodded, “Maybe you should try your luck with Todoroki or Iida.”

Ochako chimes in, “But there are already so many other omegas and betas going after them what with the rich settlements they’ll inherit from their families.”

“Thank you! Besides I don’t like them in the way that I like Kacchan. You guys are right that they would make for a more ideal mate, but Bakugou Katsuki has always held a special place in my heart ever since we were kids.”

Mina sighed, “Well if you’re that sure sweetie.”

He smiled humbly, “I’m sure.” before going back to his post at the counter and started wiping up.

The wooden double doors swung open, and a blonde beta man walked in wearing a sleek black suit and hat, he spotted Izuku and licked his fingers to mat down his eyebrows and went to the bar to sit down.

“Midoriya dear.” he cooed.

Izuku turned to him with a scowl, “Yes Monoma?” gathering leftover dishes on the counter.

“A barn raising is happening this Sunday, would you mind accompanying me?”

“Going with you insinuates that we’re courting which we are not.” slamming the dirty dishes into the wash tub and began pumping for water to come through.

“A healthy omega like yourself shouldn’t spend your days serving others when you can just serve one person, it would make your life so much easier.” Monoma coyly smirked.

The Calamity Riders bristled at those words and Mina was about to reach for her shotgun to get this beta to shut his mouth but noticed Izuku signaling her to stay low.

The green head told the other man, “I do this because I want to and being courted to serve just one person doesn’t appeal to me. I look for a true partnership where I would be supported just as I would support my mate, now can you honestly say you can give me that Monoma?”

The blonde got flustered and in a huff, stormed out of the inn.

Izuku let out a sigh of relief.

Two alphas in buckskin pulled up to the Aizawa-Yamada general store as one of the owners greeted them, “More furs today, problem child?”

Katsuki scoffed while Eijirou replied, “Yeah! Our whole pack hunted these down!” pulling out the deer and rabbit pelts, “Bakubro even took down a grizzly!”

“And yet I don’t see a bear pelt in that wagon.” Shinsou offhandedly commented by the door with a broom in his hands.

“That’s because it’s my prize, bageyes!” Katsuki countered, grabbing on to the fox pelts and made his way into the building.

Yamada helped weigh in the boys’ quarry and exclaimed, “Over ten pounds! That’s a new record!”

“Of fucking course it is, we’re stockpiling for the winter and with those rustlers hanging about we got to be on alert in case they try to steal our livestock.”

Aizawa voiced, “News from the sheriff is that there was a train robbery in the next county over last week, he thinks the robbers are in league with the rustlers.”

Oh that’s just great…” Bakugou gritted out.

Kirishima sadly sighed, “Troubles just keep piling on…”

Monoma came busting in just then, looking distraught, saying, “I need chocolate ASAP!”

Shinsou inquired, “What on earth for?” grabbing for a pouch behind the display case and handing it over.

The beta paid more than he needed to and started munching on the sweets.

“That- *num* stubborn *chomp* pretty, strong-headed omega… *crunch* doesn’t he realize his good looks won’t last forever?! No one will want to mate him then!”

Hitoshi grinned deviously, “Ah, Midoriya right? Turned down another courting offer from you? Good for him.”

Monoma sputtered indignantly while Shinsou laughed.

Eijirou eyed his bud’s reaction to this; it wasn’t a surprise that Midoriya Izuku was one of the most sought out Omegas in their town. Bakugou may seem indifferent to these courting attempts, but Kirishima knew better having roomed with the guy in their mountain cabin since they presented and could see the red in his eyes darkening and his jaw tightening.

Guess the question was, what exactly was his bro waiting for? It’s clear the alpha wanted to try his luck with the omega, but he won’t make a move for some reason.

Yamada asked Hitoshi, “Didn’t you say at one time you wanted to try for Midoriya’s hand?”

“Sure but I figured it was pointless if I already know his answer.”

“Damn right…” Katsuki muttered under his breath, busy looking over the supplies they needed.

Eijirou’s eyes widen in realization then and suddenly the answer became known to him and smiled under his hand before declaring out, “I’ll bet you three gold coins that Bakugou will get him to say yes!”

Everyone in the shop stilled at the notion and Katsuki turned his head in fury, “Shitty hair! What the fuck are you doing?!”

Monoma scowled deeply, “Oh? You think a brute like him can win over the most unattainable omega in this place? That’s a laugh.”

Shinsou was intrigued and commented, “I would so take that bet, I’m curious on how he would do it then fail.”

The general store couple side-eyed each other wondering themselves how this was going to play out.

Katsuki fumed and stomped his foot hard before he roughly barreled out of the store.

Izuku said goodbye to the Calamity Riders at the inn entrance and once they were gone down the street, he took the broom and started sweeping the porch. He thought about Mina’s offer again, it was truly tempting to take but his mind was made up.

Maybe had he been an Alpha or Beta he would have traveled around, stake a gold claim and make his own fortune to help his mother retire in splendor. A pipedream that became no more the moment he presented as an omega and his mother fussed over him nonstop because of it.

Suitors came a’ calling once he was of age and he either had to politely refuse them or sock them in the face if they tried to get handsy with him.

Monoma seem to be an exception to this; the man kept his boundaries, but he was still a pain-in-the-ass by pursuing a courtship that could never be.

He dreaded to think of who would be next to try to court him before his back bumped into someone’s chest.

“Oh sorry! I didn’t see- Kacchan?!” turning in time to see the disgruntle alpha.

“Deku.” the man merely grunted out.

But Izuku could tell he was nervous about something and offered him to come inside. At the bar he poured him a spicy whiskey which Katsuki appreciated and was pleasantly surprised about at the same time.

One of the benefits of growing up together is that the other knew what the other needs in the moment, even if he didn’t like it sometimes, Izuku could read him like a book.

“Is it the rustlers?” Izuku asks.

“They’re problem but nothing I can’t handle.” gulping his drink.

“Figures, Kacchan has always been incredible at what he does.”

Katsuki nearly chokes on the liquid and coughs.

Izuku quickly pats his back.

Damn it all, Deku!

His cough goes down and eyes the omega straight in the face. Everything about his appearance is just… no fucking wonder every alpha and some betas kept seeking him out to be their mate. Those bright green doe eyes, cute freckles, wavy locks… he was just the whole package in their eyes. But for Katsuki… he wanted Izuku even before he presented. His best friend since childhood.

Izuku slightly blushed at the sudden stare.

Fuck it, let’s get it over with. I’ll cope with the damn rejection if I have to. Our friendship counts in the end.

Katsuki takes a deep breath and outright says, “Marry me.”

HUH?!” Izuku gasps.

I couldn’t have heard that right, have I?! His mind going into an absolute spiral of what this all means.

“Oi, I know those gears are turning in your head, I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t mean it so I’m waiting for your response.” his fingers twitching in anticipation on the counter.

That halted his thoughts, and he let out a bright smile, saying, “YES!”

Katsuki was shocked but happy, “Well fuc- okay then…” he got up, feeling the excitement starting to course through his body, “go get cleaned up and put something nice on then we’ll see the preacher.”

“Okay!” Izuku exclaimed so gleefully, nearly knocking things down while racing to the back calling for his mother.

Katsuki wasted no time getting back to the general store with a smug look on his face and that was all anyone needed to know with Eijirou beaming with pride, Aizawa, Yamada, and Shinsou were shell-shocked, and Monoma was horrified.

“Ei, I need some copper for the barber.”

“Getting all gussy up bro? That’s so manly!” handing him the coins.

“Have to, getting’ married within the hour.”

When Katsuki was out the door once more, Monoma pointed to the red head in accusation, “You planned this!”

“Nah, bro just needed a nudge to get what he’s always wanted.”

Hitoshi mentioned, “So’s that’s how it is.” Slumming onto the counter.

“That and I knew from the get-go that Mido wanted no other but Katsuki for his husband, the two always give the other goo-goo eyes when we were children, it was just bound to happen.”

Aizawa sighed, “So true, they were the local problem children for a reason.”

Yamada slapped his knee in laughter, “I’ll say! That hog stampede they caused will be forever part of this town’s history!” he cackled on.

Shouta glowered back, “That was inexcusable, the town almost starved during the winter that year because we couldn't find all the hogs that got loose.”

“But they’ve more than made up for that since then!” Eijirou pointed out, “After all Katsuki stopped those bank robbers two years ago and just the year before Midoriya overheard an assassination plot at the inn, saving the mayor from being killed!”

“Huh, putting it all into perspective now,” Hitoshi wiped some glasses, “we really should have realized those two would get together in the end.”

“See?!” Kiri motioned.

Hizashi laughed out loud while his husband groaned and pinched his nose.

The preacher faced the young couple ready to say their vows and said, “Please repeat after me, I, Bakugou Katsuki…”

“I, Bakugou Katsuki…”

“Take this Omega to be my lawfully wedded husband…”

“Take this Omega to be my lawfully wedded husband…”

“To love, to cherish… To have and to hold…”

“To love, to cherish… To have and to hold…”

Hearing his Kacchan say these vows nearly brought Izuku to tears of joy, this was an absolute dream come true for him.

“For richer and for poorer… For better or for worse…”

“For richer and for poorer… For better or for worse…”

“In sickness and in health, in joys and in sorrows, until death do us part…”

“In sickness and in health, in joys and in sorrows, until death do us part…”

“Now for you,” the preacher turned to Izuku, “I, Midoriya Izuku…”

“I, Midoriya Izuku…”

“Take this Alpha to be my lawfully wedded husband…”

“Take this Alpha to be my lawfully wedded husband…”

“To love, to cherish… To have and to hold…”

“To love, to cherish… To have and to hold…”

“For richer and for poorer… For better or for worse…”

“For richer and for poorer… For better or for worse…”

“In sickness and in health, in joys and in sorrows, until death do us part…”

“In sickness and in health, in joys and in sorrows, until death do us part…”

“The rings.”

The couple exchanged silver wedding bands they had on hand with love shining in their eyes.

“I now pronounced you two married. You may kiss.”

Katsuki wasted no time in swooping Izuku into his arms and swiftly kissing him. Izuku happily returned it, getting a taste of each other as their tongues twirled around in their mouths.

When they took a breath, Katsuki uttered, “Fucking finally. I’ve been restraining myself ever since you first presented.”

“Wait you mean… when you started distancing yourself that was because…!”

“Yeah, the pheromones were too much for me, so I had to limit myself from seeing you so much.”

“I commend your alpha for showing the proper restraint.” The preacher nodded in approval.

“So you didn’t hate me for being an Omega!” Izuku cried in joy.

“Dumbass! We just got married didn’t we?! Would I marry someone if I hated them?!”

“I know! But we were never able to talk like this after our presentings! I didn’t even know if we were still friends because of that.”

“I had to show the proper decorum, you know it’s look down upon for unmated Alphas and Omegas to talk so friendly with each other.”

“Most certainly.” The preacher added in.

Katsuki motioned with his head, as if saying, ‘See?’

Izuku sadly smiled, “I’m sorry, I guess I let my insecurities get the better of me.”

Katsuki rubbed his head, “Yeah well, I was a yellow belly for not asking sooner. I was hearing how you kept rejecting so many alphas and betas that I thought that meant you didn’t want a mate and figured I was putting our friendship on the line because of that.”

“Oh… Kacchan, no, far from it!” he put his hand on his cheek, “I only wanted you… The one person that means so much to me…”

Katsuki was stunned before taking that hand and kissing it in the palm.

“Well fuck… that explains a lot.”

Izuku giggled.

Katsuki smiled, “So husband, ready to go start our new life?” touching his forehand with his.

“Yes! More than ready!” clasping their ring hands together.

They thanked the preacher and headed straight to the front of the general store where a certain group of people were waiting for them.

“There they are!” Eijirou exclaimed, waving his arm, “Congratulations you guys!”

Shinsou sighed fondly, “Bakugou did it, got the best Omega out of the entire county.”

“He’s not some fucking prize jackass! He knew what he wanted, and he got it! So there!”

“Does that make you the prize then?” Shinsou grinned deviously.

“What-fucking-ever!”

“That wasn’t a no.”

Izuku addressed Hitoshi while holding his husband’s arm, “Neither of us was the prize, we’re just lucky enough to finally have each other.”

Aizawa sighed, “The way you’re clinging on to each other definitely says as much.”

“Oh come on Sho, we were exactly like that when we first got married!” his husband chuckled.

Katsuki said to his mate, “I’m just fucking glad we can talk the way we want to again.”

“Hm-mm!” Izuku practically nuzzled on his husband’s shoulder.

Hitoshi snickered behind his hand, “With some new perks no doubt.”

Izuku stilled from hearing that and went tomato red, and started sputtering, "Ka-Kacchan and me- doing....!"

"Stupid bageyes! Look what you done now!" his own face going red in embarrassment while everyone around them just laughed.
