In Any Universe I'll Always Find You

Summary:

I've restarted my prompt challenge with some friends so that means another fic where every chapter is disconnected from the last unless otherwise stated. Various ships and characters throughout the fic. Nothing is set in stone.

Notes:

So I'm back and here we are. I posted this prompt then got really bad news so... yeah that happened and this is what came out. There may be a second and third versions of this prompt coming tomorrow.

Chapter 1: "We Only Part To Meet Again"

Chapter Text

“We only part to meet again.”
Luka ‘ER’

The room was quiet and still and Erika had to admit that she’d never really been able to handle things like this. She’d never been very good at funerals, or at memorials, but there was no way she couldn’t have come. AG Robinson had been her best friend for more than ten years. As much as she had loved Jonathan, she had realised that her platonic soulmate was very much AG and she had been thankful he’d felt the same, and that was why this was so hard here. “I don’t really know what I’m supposed to say right now.”

Now that she was here, though, she knew that it was the most important thing to say. What she needed to get out of herself to try and feel less guilty about everything that she was going through right now. About all the guilt she had in her heart for being late to the group climbing, just in time to hear there had been an accident and to see them rushing her best friend away. “You’re my best friend, AG, how could you do this to me?” She said quietly, stepping up to the casket draped in the Earth flag. She then signed and shook her head, thinking about AG’s family and his wife, her friend. It wasn’t fair that he had been taken from them all so quickly. “You have a baby on the way, how could you do this to Ruby too? I know you wouldn’t have if you could have stayed… but I will always be asking these questions.”

There was something so dark about this situation. Jonathan wasn’t even going to be able to be here for the actual funeral, so weren’t a lot of their friends. She’d had to apply for leave to make sure she was here for it. Thinking about Jonathan made her miss him deeply, and made her worry about him too. They weren’t even together anymore, but she had never fallen out of love with him. “Who am I going to ramble about Jon too now? Veronica?” She asked and then chuckled to herself, smoothing out the flag again as she stayed hovering over her friend. “You know she would just tell me to get over him and that men are awful anyway.” She knew that they had both heard Veronica’s complaints there, and she knew that AG would find it funny too.

“I can’t believe you’re not going to be here any more, and I’m really going to miss you so much.” That was the whole of it. She was about to say goodbye to the truest friend she had ever known. “We’ll see each other again, AG. I promise you that.” She finished, not wanting to belabour this point any longer. She needed to go and speak to others, and to focus on Ruby, and then she would try and live her life. Live it to honour her best friend.
