Chapter Text
"I'm heading out"
"Alright son, stay safe"
Little did Subaru know those would be the last words he'd share with his parents. It's funny, you never know when it will be the last time you see the people who you take for granted will always be right there. You say mundane things that wouldn't leave the kind of impact that you'd like to leave. Before you know it..
They're gone.
"Where am I?" He looked around in disbelief. One minute he was stepping out of the convenience store with a bagful of snacks and the next he was in a world that looked straight out of a fantasy light novel! He felt confused, a little scared but mostly-
"Whoe holy crap I've been isekaied!" he yelled excitedly, bringing the attention of many strange looking creatures that must be the locals "but what does this mean? Am I the chosen one, destined for greatness with an arsenal of magic abilities?" He was so excited that he didn't hear the dragon cart barreling towards him
"Watch out" he was scooped up and carried out of the way by a nearby knight "you stupid kid! What were you thinking standing in the middle of a busy road!" the man scolded Subaru harshly.
"He speaks English" he muttered to himself. It was fortunate that he'd studied English before or he would have been in trouble.
"I'm sorry sir" he slipped into English, bowing apologetically.
"Hey why you bent over like that kid? Did you hurt your back?" His angry tone changed to one of concern.
"Uh no I'm fine" he stood up straight. This cultural shift will take some getting used to.
"Alright, just stay out of trouble" he sighed before walking off.
"Thank you sir" he said before heading into an alleyway, pulling out his cellphone "I wonder if I can call my parents to let them know I'll be late" he stared at the screen "no signal. Guess I was being optimistic" he shoved the phone in his pocket with a sigh.
"Hey you" he looked up to see three generic looking thugs "hand over your valuables and you won't get hurt"
"Hehehe" he chuckled confidently "I guess you three are the ones that I get to test my newfound powers on" he held his hand out with a confident smirk "get ready to taste my fireball" a few moments of awkward silence went by "hey where are my awesome magic powers!"
The three thugs burst out laughing "man this guy's a nut case!" The middle guy pointed a knife at him "now hand over your valuables"
He put his hands up. This isn't looking good. At this moment a young girl with blonde hair jumped over their heads. Following behind her was a silver haired girl. Subaru's eyes widened as she ran past him. She was beautiful.
She turned on her heels, directing her attention to the men "I'm in a rush but I can't ignore what's going on here" she raised a hand, sending a barrage of ice their way. As the thugs lay unconscious Subaru watched her in awe. To say he was smitten was an understatement!
"Hey miss, would you happen to be the girl from my dreams?" He asked earnestly.
"I'm sorry but I don't have time for this. That girl stole something valuable of mine" she said sharply
"Really? That's unforgivable" he took her hands firmly "let me help you retrieve it. If we work together we'll find it twice as quick"
"You don't owe me anything" she pulled her hand away from him "I only saved you for my own peace of mind"
This girl had stopped to help him when she was in trouble herself and was even trying to convince him that he owed her nothing. Subaru could tell she was a very kind person.
"I'm going to help you and that's that" he grabbed her by the hand and dragged her out of the alleyway "now let's ask around"
*Time skip*
"You're way too nice setella. Stopping to help that kid after being robbed" Subaru walked through the slums the store owner told them both "still I'm glad you did. Who knows if she would have found her mom on her own"
"Well she wouldn't have come with me without you calming her" she smiled greatfully "you must teach me your magic trick Subaru"
"Only if you teach me yours beautiful" he winked at her, making her giggle.
"This is the place" the two stood outside an old bar.
"Let me go in first. Make sure it's safe and all" he stepped into the house. Immediately he could smell a heavy metallic scent in the air. It was too dark to see so he grabbed his lantern and shone the light on..
"AHH!" He can face to face with an old man's corpse, brutally gutted.
"Subaru is everything alright?" The soft voice of the silver haired girl came closer.
"No satella, don't come in-"
"My, I wasn't expecting guests" he quickly turned his head. A woman stood there with a pleasant smile. That smile may have put him at ease if she hadn't been coated in fresh blood.
"Subaru" the silver haired girl trembled at the sight. Subaru moved to shield her.
"What cute little mice you are" she licked the blood off her weapon with a euphoric expression "your fear is intoxicating. I can't wait to cut you both up"
"Wait please-" she didn't listen, swinging her weapon towards them. Subaru pushed out the way, pushing Emilia to the ground.
"You're a speedy little mouse" she eyed him in interest.
"Please you don't have to kill us" he argued with her "we won't tell anyone what happened. We just came here to get something that was stolen from us. We'll leave immediately-"
"My, you seem to have come to a dangerous misunderstanding" that kind smile started to unnerve Subaru "I don't just kill out of necessity. I enjoy every moment of a person's suffering. Nothing brings me more joy than torturing others-"
"Then take me!" Subarus outburst surprised the assassin. Subaru didn't really think of the things he was saying. In a state of panic he just kept talking "you like torturing others right? Why only have five minutes of pleasure when you could have weeks of fun with me"
"Subaru what are you doing!" The silver haired girl whisper-yelled.
Subaru ignored her "I won't run. I'll do anything you want. Just please don't kill her"
"What an intriguing offer, I accept" she put her weapon away. Subaru sighed in relief. She held a blood soaked hand to him "come along dear"
"Subaru you can't go with her!" The half elf tried to reason with him. Still she could tell he wasn't going to listen "I swear to you Subaru, I'll save you!"
He looked back, his sad smile betrayed his true feelings "I'll wait for you"
