Chapter Text

The black hearse drives down the road far past the speed limit, but the occupants don't seem to mind the sharp turns of the vehicle, or the squealing wheels that protest them.

The exterior of the car is a solid black, with silver accents, the windows and windshields are tinted dark, but their driver doesn't seem affected by that.

Lurch sits in the driver's seat of the vehicle, with Thing in the passenger seat, an atlas is draped over the seat, and the tiny hand taps upon the paper, wordlessly directing the Butler toward their destination.

Behind the hearse, a moving truck follows from a distance, the occupants of the vehicle watch the second vehicle closely.

"How soon do you believe they'll crash into us?"

Wednesday Addams asks, their voice is a low drawl, but they seem invested in the question. They wear a white button-up and a black vest, black leather gloves glint in the light of the car.

Beside him, Enid Sinclair laughs, her outfit is the exact opposite of her partner's. Like the physical personification of the term, " A splash of color."

"They won't Wednesday, they're too far away." She smiles at him, and Wednesday's gaze turns from the window to watch her.

"Disappointing." Enid rolls her eyes fondly, one of her hands moving to interlace her fingers with Wednesday's gloved hands.

"I hear the on-site staff cabin is supes adorable! But I still can't believe we got hired!" The werewolf gushes, Wednesday raises an eyebrow, only a small quirk of expression, but the wolf knows him well enough to read even their micro expressions.

"Well, I'm surprised they hired me." She adjusts the words, giving a pointed look to Wednesday.

"I'm pretty sure you got the position because you're an Addams."

Wednesday gives an unimpressed look to Enid and glances back out of the window.

The hearse is finally passing the gates of Nevermore Academy, they're moving in before the school semester is due to start, so they can settle into Jericho properly and have time to adjust to their roles in the Academy.

"I simply took the position to keep near you." The words are spoken bluntly, but there is a sharpness underneath, possessiveness.

Enid hums softly, her thumb is rubbing circular motions into his skin.

The hearse turns onto a side road from the main road to Nevermore, going towards the staff housing and easing to a stop in front of a cabin, amongst a small neighborhood of cabins that looked exactly the same.

The car's engine shuts off, and Lurch steps out, opening the door for the hearse's occupants.

Enid passes a set of sunglasses to Wednesday before they step out, Wednesday puts them on and grabs their cane, holding an arm out for Enid, who looks rather out of place amongst all of the black and white, her clothes are certainly more modern, colorful, and vibrant.

The moving van pulls to a stop, Enid presses a kiss to Wednesday's cheek before pulling away and going towards the moving van, Wednesday's focus turns and removing a collection of keys, they approach the small cabin's door and open it.

Wednesday can tell that today will already be a long day.

Especially because they have neighbors.

Wednesday wanted nothing to do with meeting any new people. So, he orders Lurch to guard the door while he goes to help Enid. The moving crew is hesitant to get near him, much less speak to him. So Enid is the one to do the talking, and Wednesday is the one made to carry the items the moving crew was too afraid to.

Which meant many of their taxidermy pieces.

They finish moving their things into the house by sunset

"I would've preferred we come by nightfall." Wednesday once again reiterates, once they're in the quiet of the house, standing in the kitchen and preparing dinner. Lurch is currently doing laundry and Thing is doing something. He probably stole their phones again.

"I know, but the moving crew only works during the day." Enid leans into their side, Wednesday is watching the pot warm up while Enid cuts the meat and sets it onto the pan.

Wednesday works on another pan, one where the sauce is being mixed and warmed, Enid glances at the prepackaged noodles somewhat embarrassed, but Wednesday doesn't say anything about it, even though Enid knows they adamantly despise prepackaged ingredients and would rather make meals entirely from scratch.

Dinner is simple, quiet, made reusing the Addams family recipe Wednesday taught her, and whatever ingredients they'd managed to save before the move.

They lay down, Enid was already starting to fall asleep, and Wednesday listened to the quiet neighborhood.

There's movement in the other houses around them, the ambient sound of voices talking to each other, calm activity that doesn't feel like a threat or unfamiliar. There's movement in their home, but it is only the familiar thumping footfalls of Lurch, and the quiet scratch of Thing's nails, as they mark each room of the house with wards. Tomorrow, Wednesday will reinforce them. For now, he rests and resists the need to stalk amongst their new neighborhood.
