Work Text:
None of them remember leaving the stadium. None of them remember deciding to walk two hours after the longest night of their lives. What they do know is that they made the decision to walk the same way they do most things, together. Now, moving together feels more natural than it ever has before.
Rumi has one arm wrapped around Mira's waist and the other around Zoey's shoulders. Zoey and Mira each have an arm wrapped around Rumi and are purposefully brushing their finger tips against whatever bit of skin and clothing of each other that they can reach. It's unclear to what degree each of them are moving under their own power or relying on the other two to carry them, not that it matters because it's all the same.
Their bodies are beyond exhausted and the weight of grief, guilt, betrayal, and a million other things threaten to drag them down and drown them into their own separate states of despair, but something else is carrying them right now. It could be the relief of no more secrets remaining between them, their victory over Gwi-ma, their newfound knowledge that the three of them will always return to each other, or the new honmoon that they can feel silently humming along to the rhythm of the early morning air. It's probably some sort of combination of all of those things. Either way against all odds, Hunter/x is still here, still together, and still standing. And that's all any of them has ever needed.
They're not alone. People emptied out of Namsan tower in droves, all looking as though they've woken up from a dream. Mixed in with the dazed crowd going home are some of the first of the early morning commuters and the last of the night shift workers who had not fallen prey to the Saja Boys. But coming, going, waking up, or falling asleep, everyone had something in common. Everyone can feel the newly strengthened connection between thenselves and the world around them. Most people are smiling, others have tears of joy slowly leaking down their face. A few people are lovingly speaking to skmekne on their phones. Friends are embracing, strangers are laughing, and Rumi, Mira, and Zoey almost feel like they're still flying.
They walk in silence, more comfortable with each other than they've ever been on their own. It's a long while before the quiet is finally broken by Zoey. Rumi and Mira smile at the reliability of it.
"So, like, are you guys hungry? Because I am starving! We should get something to eat." Fondly, Rumi gently squeezes Zoey's shoulders before turning to look at Mira quizzically.
Mira shrugs almost nonchalantly. "Yeah, I could eat. If you're up for that Rumi?"
As always, the final decision falls on their leader. Not that Rumi would ever consider saying no to both of her girls for somethjng so simple. Besides, she hasn't eaten anything since the Idol Awards. "Let's do it. Keep an eye out for something that looks good."
Everything looks good in the state they're in right now, so they stop at the first place they see. The food is good, made better by the comfort of each other's company. They eat quickly but not as ravenously as they usually like to, their pr training still holding strong.
They're a little more energized after eating, softly chatting to each other about nothing. They point out flowers they like, Zoey shares fun facts about different bugs and birds she sees, and they all regularly share the awe they feel toward the new honmoon. Their honmoon. Zoey nearly starts crying, which would've caused a chain reaction of Rumi and Mira crying as well. Luckily they're saved from this happening when the usually inhumanly graceful Mira stumbles over nothing. Rumi and Zoey giggle while Mira grumbles about her contacts drying out and her eyes being itchy.
"You should close them then. Me and Rumi could totally be your eyes for you. It'd be fun." Zoey finishes with a sing-song voice.
Mira chuckles drily. "Sure, Zo. Cause there's no way that could go wrong." Mira's face switches from amused to sincere, her voice losing the gentle sarcasm. "Thanks for offering though."
"Mira," Rumi says gently but firm enough to broker no arguments, "it's okay. We won't let you fall."
Mira huffs but allows herself to be moved to the middle and outs her arms around both Tumi and Zoey's shoulders before closing her eyes and allowing herself to be led away. Zoey happily describes everything she sees that she thinks Mira would enjoy, which she does. Rumi concentrates on making sure they're still heading in the right direction and that Mira won't trip over anything. It's quite the surprise when Zoey trips and falls. She pops back up immediately and tries to play it off like she meant for that to happen. Rumi and Mira laugh but don't say anything more in the matter and the three of them manage to get back to their penthouse all in one piece.
Upon reaching the juncture between their rooms, they linger. All for them are clearly reluctant separate so soon. Zoey seems as though she is trying to vibrate out of her skin as she tries to come up with an excuse to stay together and Rumi finds herself with similar difficulties. Mira rolls her tired, red eyes. "This is stupid. Go shower, get changed, then meet back up in the living room. We're all in desperate need of some serious ouch time."
Zoey cheers and time feels a knot of tension in her chest release. Zoey suddenly turns and puts a stern finger in each of their faces. "I expect to see you both on the couch in ten minutes and not a moment longer. That means you guys can't wash your ridiculous amounts of hair til' later."
Mira snorts and Rumi shakes her head fondly. "Sure, Zoey. Mira and I will see you in ten minutes."
Nine minutes later Rumi is laying on the couch with Zoey's ear pressed against her chest so she can hear Rumi's heartbeat and Mira draped on top of Zoey's back like a protective blanket. If it weren't for her enhanced hunter strength Rumi might've been uncomfortable, but as it is weight is comforting. It reminds Rumi that she's really here with Mira and Zoey. That doesn't make everything alright. It doesn't fix everything. A lot of people have died. Trust has been broken and only just begun to be reforged. There's still far too many things left unsaid and wounds that need to be reopened before they can heal properly. But for now, Zoey, Mira, and Rumi are home and that's enough.
