The stories of soulmates could be dated back to ancient times. Many described the tales of princesses and princes falling for knights, royals from rivaling families or the common folk. While others talked about how alphas went to war for their omegas and betas and many other countless romances that travelled into the modern era.
For Evan Buckley, it has been a regular Monday morning. He had gotten up, went for a quick run, made his coffee and was all fresh and ready for another day of firefighting.

Trust me, my old man will give you his approval soon," he reassured, causing Eddie to smile faintly as he rested his head on top of Buck's chest. He could only hope that his mate was right.

Friday night found Eddie, Buck and Christopher standing outside the Nash/Grant front door.
Buck was holding a dessert dish in one hand, and held Eddie's hand in the other. He squeezed his hand gently as he gave the alpha a warm smile, stroking his thumb against his hand as Eddie took a deep breath. "Why does it feel like I'm waiting for my death?" He asked as Buck snorted slightly as he kissed his cheek.
"You'll be fine, babe," he reassured as Christopher looked up at his father and gave him a thumbs up. "Relax, Dad. Bobby will give you his permission," he reassured as he gave Eddie a bright smile. The alpha couldn't help but find the younger alpha's need to reassure him endearing as the front door opened and Bobby stood in the doorway.
"Here, Buck. Let me take that. And this must be Christopher, it's nice to meet you," Bobby said as he held his hand out for Christopher to shake, before nodding to Eddie as he took the dish from Buck. "Eddie, it's good to see you," he said as the younger alpha smiled faintly as he nodded. "Thank you for having us for dinner," he said as Bobby stepped aside so that the trio could come in.
Inside, Athena was setting the table up when she spotted her son and the two alphas. "Buckaroo," she crooned as she hugged Buck tightly, to which the omega happily returned the hug as he let out a happy little purr when Athena kissed his forehead. May and Harry were both sitting down on the couch, while Maddie and Chimney were in the kitchen grabbing plates.
Chimney gave Eddie an encouraging thumbs up, while Maddie gave them both a reassuring smile. "Bobby, maybe Eddie can help you with the grill?" She suggested, causing both Buck and Eddie to give her a shocked look before Athena made a small noise.
"It would be good quality father and son in law bonding time," she commented, causing Eddie to look like he was about to be lined in front of the firing squard. Before he could kindly back out, Bobby steered him towards the back patio, where the barbecue was already cooking away. Buck watched him go, blowing him a kiss as Eddie gave him a tiny, loving smile before he walked out with Bobby.
"Guys, you just sent him to his death," Buck said, shooting the pair a betrayed look as Maddie rolled her eyes fondly at her baby brother while she passed him a glass of wine. Buck took a tiny sip as Athena gently rubbed his arm, while Christopher joined May and Harry in playing a game down by the couch.
"Your father, believe it or not, has started to relax about the idea of you two being together," she reassured as Buck smiled faintly while he played with one of her coasters. He then took a deep breath as he looked over to where the two alphas were, watching as Eddie stood stiffly by the older alpha as Bobby chatted about some story from his early days as a firefighter.
"They're both important to me, I want them to get along and for Dad to accept Eddie," Buck said as Athena and Maddie gave him both a warm smile. "And he will," Athena replied as Maddie gave him a small side hug. "Just have fate, Buck. Once he sees how happy you are, then he will definitely accept Eddie as your mate," she added as Buck took a deep breath before nodding.
Before he could say anything, there was a loud laugh from outside. Buck turned around, and saw that Bobby was laughing at something Eddie was telling him. Immediately, the omega's body released it's tension as a smile of his own grew on his face while watching his two favourite alphas talking and bonding. It was a good sign that everything was going to be okay.

"Okay, things are going well. He laughed at my joke, he gave me a praise. Just one more hour and then I should have his full blessing," Eddie thought to himself as Bobby dished up their dinner and passed it over.
He felt Buck's hand squeeze hist thigh softly, causing him to look over as he gave his alpha a smile and wink.
"You're doing well, baby," he praised, causing Eddie to let out a small thrill as he kissed his cheek. Buck purred happily before the omega picked up his fork and knife. They weren't even halfway in before Buck looked up.
"Daddy, can you pass the salt please?" He asked.
And a bomb was set off. Because Eddie, who was far tooused to the omega calling him Daddy, reached for the salt.
At the same time as Bobby.
The two alphas looked up in shock, Eddie's face growing pale as a blank expression appeared on Bobby's face. The temperature dropped, and, if looks could kill, then Eddie would be dead ten times over.
"Oh fuck," Buck muttered, realising that he had just handed his mate a death sentence. While May sipped her drink.
'This just got interesting,' she commented, while Maddie and Chimney both covered their faces as Athena closed her eyes and breathed deeply through her nose. Thankfully, Christopher and Harry were more focused on eating their dinner and completely oblivious to the quiet stare down Eddie and Bobby were having. Buck looked seconds away from pleading his father to not kill his alpha before Bobby took a deep breath.
"Well.....I didn't need to know that my son has a....certain word he likes to say," he said, and the adults looked embarrassed enough for Buck and Eddie. Eddie raised a hand, his face pale. But, before he could plead his case, that he didn't hurt Buck or did anything to make him uncomfortable, Buck himself spoke up.
"Dad, please. I know that you're protective of me, you always have been ever since I was a kid. And I'm grateful, I will always be grateful for the love and the happiness you have given me during my childhood and well into my adulthood. But Eddie...." Buck looked over at Eddie, and Eddie felt himself relax slightly from the loving gaze the omega was giving him.
Taking a breath, Buck turned back towards his father and squeezed Eddie's hand before continuing. "Eddie is my soulmate and a good alpha. This whole week, he has proved himself time and time again. He has showered me with presents and spoiled me rotten. He has looked out for me during calls and protected me from harm, all the while making sure that my freedom is still in take.
Eddie is a great role model for Christopher, as well as being an amazing father. He's a great firefighter and the others adore him. He's great with the community and, more importantly, he has made me feel loved and valued. He listens to my body and showers me with so much love that my soul is literally bursting, both from the love he gives me and I give him in return. So please, give him your blessing," Buck begged, holding Eddie's hand tightly as he looked towards his father.
Bobby was quiet as he digested his son's words, allowing silence to fill the room as the couple waited with bated breath for his decision.
Athena took her husband's hand, squeezing it gently as Bobby looked over to her. "Sweetheart, look at our boy. Eddie makes him happy, Bobby. Isn't that the most important thing?" She asked as Maddie nodded and patted Buck's other hand, giving her brother a soft smile.
The silence that filled the table was almost too suffocating for the couple to bare. Finally, just as Eddie was planning out his will and prepared to say his farewell to live and miss out the chance of seeing Buck grow their baby, Bobby finally released a deep, heavy sigh as he looked at the pair. A small smile slowly grew on his face as he nodded. "Alright. Eddie Diaz.....you have my blessing to be my son's mate. I mean, you two are soulmates, it would be a crime to keep you two apart," he said.
And, just like that, a cord had been snapped. Eddie pressed his hands in a prayer, muttering in fast Spanish before looking at Bobby. "Thank you, Bobby. I swear, you won't regret it," he said as Buck got up and hugged his father tightly. Bobby returned the hug just as hard, pressing the omega against his body as Buck nuzzled his neck gently.
"Thank you, Dad. I swear, he's going to take good care of me," Buck whispered softly as Bobby pressed his lips on top of his head, thinking back to when Buck was a little boy and he would always seek Bobby out for a tight bear hug. Now, as he let him go and watched him return to Eddie's side, hugging and kissing his mate lovingly, Bobby could only sit back and allow himself to relax.
Athena rested her head on his shoulder before kissing his cheek. "He's going to be okay, Bobby," Athena whispered softly as Bobby sighed gently before smiling.
"He will be."

Three months later
Eddie woke up to an empty bed. Patting the spot beside it, he sat up and found that Buck wasn't even in the room. Slowly, a faint smile appeared on Eddie's face as the alpha got up and walked out of the room. He found Buck sitting on the swing chair on the back porch, hands resting on his bump as he stared up at the stars.
"Can't sleep?" He asked as Buck huffed softly before sitting down next to his mate, wrapping a blanket around Buck as the omega leaned against him. Eddie's hand immediately went to Buck's bump, rubbing it gently as Buck placed a hand over his pendant. "Just thinking. You know, this is a Southern Star, right? Legend said that they used to help navigate voyagers out at sea," he started to say. He was quiet for a moment before turning Eddie, giving him a soft, loving gaze.
He cupped his cheek gently as he pressed a soft kiss against his lips. "Just like it lead us together," he finished, causing Eddie to soften as he kissed his mate gently. Holding Buck in his arms, Eddie looked up at the stars, breathing in his mate's comforting scent as his warmth spread through him.
Fate was funny, in a way. Two souls, lost in limbo and seeking one another, had finally found themselves in a place built for saving lives. Under the guidance of the stars, two souls joined the many other countless love stories before them. The brave knight proved his worth to the king, and in the end he got the prince.
Under the light of the stars, Eddie tilted Buck's chin, kissing him softly and tenderly as their love poured through the bond.
A silent vow was made underneath the starlight. Their souls will never part again and will always find their way back to each other.
