Chapter Text

The night sky shone brightly over the Grayson-Midoriya household as Izuku and his father sat atop a rooftop. Izuku, a small boy of eight, stared at his father in awe as the man told his story.

Standing at six feet with a broad chest and shoulders was Nolan Grayson-Midoryia. He had black hair that was greying at the sides and a thick black mustache. He smiled down at his son. Love shining in his eyes. To most Nolan Grayson-Midoryia was a simple author of travel books that sold quite well. But to his family however. He was one of the best superheroes in the world, known as Omni-Man.

Izuku loved heroes and had since the moment his father let him meet Lady Nagant at the age of five. His love for heroes only grew after seeing the famous video of All Might rescuing hundreds of civilians in minutes. Yet his dad was even a step above All Might in some regards. Though his father did not care for the hero commission or rankings. He still went out and saved people and for that Izuku loved him.

“Well, son,” Nolan said. “You’re getting older, and soon your body will start to have some changes. You’re getting to an age where your body will start to feel weird. You’ll grow taller, and you’ll have hair in random places on your body. And one day…you’ll be able to fly, like me.”

“Really?” Izuku asked with a gasp. His heart started to race. He had been born quirkless and it was his dream to be a hero. Now his dad was telling him he could be.

Nolan nodded. “Yes, son. You see, it’s time I tell you a little about where I came from. I come from a planet millions of light-years away from here. A vast and beautiful oasis of a planet called Viltrum. As Viltrumites get older, our powers start to awaken. We are then sent out to help other, less developed planets.” His dad smiled down at him and the moon reflected in his hair. “And I was chosen to go to earth. Where I met your mother, and then we had you.” His father booped his nose. “You’re a Half-Viltrumite son. And one day, you’re going to have superpowers like me. Flight, super strength, speed. The whole bit.”

Izuku stared at his dad, wide-eyed and smiling and he stood and looked at the stars above. “I’m going to be able to fly?”

Yes, son.” Nolan smiled. “You’re going to be able to fly.”

Izuku walked down the street and was heading home. Alongside him was his best friend Katsuki Bakugo. Katsuki was a little taller than Izuku. With spiky yellow hair and red eyes. The two had been friends since they were four years old. Their mothers have been friends even longer. When Izuku was first diagnosed as quirkless, Bakugo wasn’t exactly the nicest to him. But after Nolan had a chat with him, Bakugo had a change of attitude. He had protected Izuku from bullies their whole life.

Now it was their last day of high school. Both boys were seventeen and after the summer UA College would open its doors to new students. Izuku knew Bakugo was going to try out and succeed. But Izuku, well Izuku was still powerless.

Bakugo had his head pressed against the back of his head as he walked. “Your powers awakened yet?”

Izuku shook his head. “Nope.” He clicked his tongue. It had been nearly a decade since his father had told him that story and nothing. “Honestly, I don’t think they’ll ever come.”

Bakugo swatted his chest. “Don’t say shit like that!” He nearly yelled. “You’ll see! They’ll awaken and we’ll go to UA together!”

“Even if I don’t get my powers I can still enter quirkless.” Izuku muttered. “Based on my calculations it’s only a two percent chance to get into the hero course. But as a support source student, my chances are much higher. I can help make tools and prove myself from there and make my way to the hero course. That is if I don’t get into the hero course-

Bakugo swatted him again. “Shut up! You’re rambling again.” The boy shook his head. “Come on, let’s go to the arcade. Get your mind off this shit. Let’s enjoy our first day of summer break!”

Izuku looked at his bag. “B-but my hero notebooks. I saw this new hero called MT. Lady and she has this quirk that makes her grow really tall and-

“Arcade!” Bakugo shouted. Grabbing Izuku by the collar of his shirt he began to drag him along.

Izuku could do naught but huff and Bakugo dragged him along. He could’ve broken out if he wanted to. But he didn’t. He let himself be dragged and thought that maybe some time at the arcade would help take his mind off his powers.

“Honestly, you worry too much,” Bakugo said as they walked past into an alley to take a shortcut. “You’re going to get your powers, we’re going to go to UA, kick some ass, then start a hero agency together.”

Izuku furrowed his brow. “But Kachan, you spend all your money at the arcade. How will you manage the finances?”

“Shut up!” Bakugo yelled. His foot kicked a green bottle holding what seemed to be green and brown sludge. “What the hell?”

He leaned down and picked up the bottle and Izuku got closer to look at it. The sludge inside seemed to move and the bottle shook.

“Kachan, I think you should-

The bottle shook violently and burst. Time seemed to slow as the sludge took shape into a mass that seemed to stand and yet run endlessly along the ground. Izuku felt a hand press harshly against his chest. Then he was falling onto his side as the sludge snatched up Bakugo and began to devour him.

Before he was fully engulfed Bakugo fought back and ringing filled Izuku’s ears as the sounds of explosions went off. He blinked, orange flames burning as the buildings around them caught fire. Bakugo struggled, yet could not break free from the sludge villain who seemed to laugh with glee.

“Such a powerful vessel. I can kill All Might with just one punch if I take him.”

Izuku’s eyes were unfocused as he tried to regain his bearings. Already multiple heroes were on the scene. One was trying to put out a fire. A dumpster kid most of Izuku’s body as another hero tried to wrench Bakugo free from the sludge villain's grasp. He failed and had to pull back lest he get impaled by spikes of sludge.

His ears wouldn’t stop ringing. Kamui Wood was saving civilians. MT. Lady was too big to fit in the tiny alley to help. There were onlookers and cops. No one was able to help Bakugo.

“We need to wait. We don’t have the right quirks for this.” Someone said. The voice sounded disembodied in Izuku’s head.

‘No one’s helping.’ Izuku thought. ‘Dad?’ His dad wasn’t there. His mind flashed back to all the times Bakugo had stood up for him. Fended off bullies and fought for him. His friend’s eyes were filled with fear as he looked at Izuku. He tried to shout something but the sludge muffled his voice.

‘He wants me to run.’ Izuku realized. Even now Bakugo was still trying to protect him.

Izuku’s grip tightened on his bag and before he knew it. His body moved on its own. Racing out from behind the garbage bin, Izuku got right up into the villain’s face. Tossing his bag with all his might, Izuku threw it into the villain’s eye, the only solid part of its body. It roared in pain and for just a brief second its grip on Bakugo was loosened.

Izuku leapt up and grabbed his friend’s collar and pulled hard. But Bakugo did not move an inch. He gasped for a short breath and struggled.

“Run you damn idiot!” He shouted. “Get out of here!”

Izuku pulled again. “Not without you! Let him go!”

The sludge villain had already recovered by this point in time. But Izuku pulled again and again.

“Another little bug.”

A tendril of slime whipped out and smacked Izuku across the chest. He was sent flying back into and partly through a wall of brick that cracked. He slid and his body fell limp to the ground. Blood trickled down his head.

“Izuku!” Was the last thing Bakugo yelled as the sludge villain pulled him back in.

The onlookers were stunned silent and the few heroes that were there could only stare in failure and stunned silence as Izuku’s body sat limply against the wall. He did not move and everyone wasn’t even sure if he was breathing.

The sludge villain laughed. “Ha! Was he quirkless?” Bakugo struggled with a new rage. “Ah, calm it down! You’ll be out of it soon enough and I’ll get your body.”

The air seemed to freeze and smell of smoke as the heroes sworn to protect the innocent could do nothing.

Then Izuku opened his eyes and stood back up.

He felt no pain, no screaming muscles in his body telling him to sit back down. He felt no blood trickling down his head nor did he feel any fatigue. He felt as he always did. Normal.

“I said let him go!” Izuku yelled. He took a step forward. Intent on charging once more with his hand outstretched. But something else happened instead.

Like a bullet, he shot forward at speeds far faster than should have been capable. His hand, already outstretched, broke through the sludge and grabbed onto Bakugo. Then they were through the sludge and on the other side. Bakugo was free and Izuku held him by his collar with only one hand a few feet off the ground.

“Izuku.” Bakugo breathed out. “You’re not hurt.”

Izuku lowered him to the ground. His body felt lighter yet stronger at the same time. “I don’t feel hurt either.”

Behind him, the sludge villain reformed. He looked to where Izuku had just been standing and saw that the concrete beneath his feet had been cracked and shattered. The villain grew confused. Then he smirked.

“Hiding something like that?” He laughed. The thought of why Izuku hasn’t used that strength before not crossing his mind. All he saw was a stronger meat suit to use as his puppet. “You’re the better puppet then.”

His tendrils reached out to grab Izuku and Bakugo once more tried to push him out of the way. But Izuku noticed that the tendrils moved a lot slower than last time. Pivoting off his right foot Izuku dodged the tendril but made sure to grab Bakugo before he dodged.

Izuku slammed into a wall adjacent to them. He wasn’t used to this new speed. He checked on Bakugo and made sure his friend was alright.

“Watch the speed!” Bakugo yelled.

Izuku dodged again and again. Avoiding each attack from the sludge villain as it tried to grab either him or Bakugo. Eventually, he moved toward the pro heroes who had only stood there and watched as the fire grew worse and worse. The fire had cut them off and they were all but trapped.

Izuku’s mind raced a thousand miles a minute. “With your quirk free do you think you can blow him up?”

Bakugo looked back. Both knew the usage of his quirk right now would be illegal since he was underage. He looked back at the sludge villain and didn’t care.

“Probably, but the damn thing would just put himself back together again.” He huffed. “Told you.”

Izuku furrowed his brow. “Told me what?”

“You got your powers, dumbass. Like I said.”

Izuku swallows the lump in his throat. “Oh.”

The sludge villain wheeled around to face them. With his powers awakened Izuku knew he should pass through the fire just fine. But Bakugo would catch on fire and either suffer terrible burns or die outright. He could fly. But Izuku didn’t know how to do that or how it even worked.

“Nowhere to run brats!”

“You need to go.” Bakugo calmly said. But Izuku felt a tremor in his neck. He was scared. “He’s after you now.”

“And have to face your mom and dad after leaving you?” Izuku shakily chuckled. God was he scared to. “Not a chance.”

As the sludge villain moved to attack the two boys and everyone else around heard the signature laughter of one of the greatest heroes behind them.

“Ha ha ha!” He laughed. Launching through the fire and putting it out, All Might raced forward. “No need to fear! For I am here!” Raising his fist back, All Might’s fist launched forward. The force of which created a tornado and changed the very weather itself. Rain began to fall and put out the fires as the sludge villain exploded into millions of pieces. Soon it was packed up by All Might and secured in a better container than a bottle.

Both Izuku and Bakugo stood there. Wide-eyed and taken aback with awe. First at seeing All Might up close and in person. The second reason was because of the sheer power he had just exuded.

With the fire out the other pro heroes began to move. Kamui Woods pulled Izuku and Bakugo to safety. With the fire put out the hero made of wood had no threat of catching fire. Then the hero with big fists started to berate Izuku for his reckless actions.

Bakugo promptly told the pro hero to fuck off and then the two got into it. All the while Izuku stared at his palms and wondered what he would tell his dad when the man came home today. If Izuku remembered correctly he should be home around dinner time as usual. He had only gone to Switzerland today.

His life was about to change as he knew it.
