Desire

Summary:

In a world governed by instinct and hierarchy, Hyunjin is a terrifying anomaly. He is an enigmatic predator twisted by obsession and a warped sense of control. Disguising himself as an omega, he stalks his victims before seducing them. Then, he destroys them and leaves them broken and changed in unimaginable ways...or dead.

His next target is Chan, an alpha unlike he has ever hunted before. It unsettles Hyunjin and his obsession deepens, making this new alpha something worth breaking.

Chapter 1: Obsession

Chapter Text

The world worked differently for one Hwang Hyunjin. He saw it through different eyes and felt it on a whole other scale. To manipulate the hierarchy in a world built on instincts and scents gave him a thrill and for so long he left damage in his wake.

Nature was supposed to be predictable. Alphas carried dominance like fire beneath their skin while omegas were softness wrapped in vulnerability. Betas balanced it all quietly in between but Hyunjin wanted to tear it all down.

No one truly knew who or what he was, an enigma of some kind. If anyone ever looked into it they would see that he had been born outside of the natural order entirely, a fracture in biology, something evolution had never meant to create. Why? Because he could unravel an alpha to their very core.

He could strip them of everything they had ever understood themselves to be, turning powerful alphas into omegas with terrifying precision. It was a violation deeper than flesh and dominance. It rewrote scent, instinct, hormones and identity completely. It left behind bodies that no longer answered to their own history.

And Hyunjin loved control. He had a warped understanding of justice, if it could even be called that. In his mind, alphas were arrogant creatures built to dominate and command. He convinced himself that he was balancing something unfair, correcting flaws even. But, it was never righteousness, it was an obsession. It was pure predation and pleasure because he hunted alphas the way predators stalked wounded prey.

He was never reckless or fast with it either. He would study his next victim for weeks. Months even. He would learn their routines and habits. Their weaknesses. He would know which cafes they favored after work and which streets they used when walking alone. The friends they trusted and which griefs made them softer. And, which loneliness could be exploited.

Then, he became what they wanted. An omega, sweet, subtle and harmless. His pheromone control was monstrous. Hyunjin could alter his scent so perfectly that even seasoned alphas, creatures built to read chemistry like language, were deceived. He could smell warm and shy like untouched rain and comfort. Like safety.

And they always believed him. That was his favorite part, watching suspicion melt and hormones surge. Alphas were always huge knotheads that loved to control those weaker than them and Hyunjin wanted to do worse.

Gods he loved the scent of fear when they realized the darkness that lived inside of him. That moment was sacred, when they understood that there was something more powerful than them built to tear them down into something else as he forced them into submission

When his pheromones shifted and they smelled whatever he was, when his ‘omega’ sweetness curdled into something wrong and cold, something rotting at the edges and predatory, their eyes would widen in horror. Their instincts would scream and Hyunjin would smile, a small, broken curve of amusement that made him look almost gentle. He would knot them over and over, lacing their senses with his pheromones and turning them against their ownnature. Into omegas.

He would use whatever nature designed him to do and the transformation would be brutal as he fucked it into them. It was physically and psychologically devastating as alphas found their bodies built around certainty suddenly found them foreign within a week. Heat replaced rut and new instincts clawed beneath their skin until their identity shattered.

But Hyunjin's cruelty never ended there because he always left behind something worse with a corrupted bite, a one-way mating mark. He bit enough to trigger instinct, attachment and desperation but he always left it incomplete. The tether had no reciprocity or closure and no bond to settle the chaos that would send their omega minds screaming.

In their world, abandonment after incompleting the bond was unforgivable and cruel. A crime that was oftentimes fatal for the omega. Their bodies and minds expected the completion, for them to bite back to establish stability and recognition but Hyunjin only gave them rupture and felt nothing. He would vanish, leaving the once upon a time alpha isolated and grieving with their own chemical instability. Some of them survived. Many of them didn't but Hyunjin moved on.

Hyunjin slipped through cities beneath carefully controlled pheromones and changed identities like clothes. He was an impossible predator. An enigma playing false omega and a nightmare wrapped in sweetness. And somewhere, he was already watching his next alpha. He was learning his routines and studying his ocean air scent which strangely was more intoxicating than he cared to admit.

He had been watching him for twenty three days. Not because he was the strongest alpha he had ever seen and not because of his broad shoulders or sharp jaw but because Chan was wrong in ways he didn't understand, and that fascinated him.

Alphas were usually easy to categorize. They were loud and territorial, hungry for dominance in ways they barely tried to hide. Even the polished ones carried it beneath expensive suits and charming smiles, an edge of entitlement and the expectation that the world bent a little easier for them.

Chan didn't. He had followed him though crowded sidewalks and rain-slick streets, watched him from parked cars and cafe windows and from shadows across intersections. He learned everything. Chan tipped servers generously and held doors for strangers. Once, he stopped in the middle of a freezing night to kneel beside a stray dog trembling beneath a bench, removing his own coat to wrap around its thin body before bringing it to a rescue.

Another time, he watched an omega accidentally spill coffee all over Chan’s shirt. The younger omega looked horrified and his scent flooded with panic because most alphas would snap. Chan only smiled and checked on him, inspecting the omega's hands for signs of a burn. Not his ruined shirt. Hyunjin hated him for that and wanted him even more because sweetness in an alphas felt unnatural.

It was something he wanted to dissect so tonight after weeks of stalking, he let Chan meet him. The bar was dim and warm, crowded with amber light and low music vibrating though polished wood. Conversation blurred into soft noise and glasses clinked. Hyunjin sat alone at the bar with his small frame tucked inward. His hands were wrapped around a drink he had barely touched, crafting himself carefully tonight.

His pheromones rolled out soft and delicate, a warm vanilla wrapped in shy sweetness. Pure omega. He was vulnerable and gentle enough to trigger instinct without screaming for attention. He didn't need to chase prey because they always came to him, and Chan noticed him after twelve minutes.

“You’ve been staring at that drink like it insulted you,” the man said with a smirk.

Looking over to him, he knew he looked shy because it wasn't very common for an omega to be out alone this late into the night. Things got dangerous for them and especially when not with a group of friends.

“Shit, sorry,” Chan laughed. “Didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. Just ignore me.”

The charm of this man was completely genuine and it felt weird. Chan somehow looked softer than he expected. Broad shoulders, strong, and undeniably alpha, but his expression was open and almost amused. Curious.

It made something stir in Hyunjin's gut but he pushed it away because now was as good of a time as ever to bring him home. “N-no!” he forced himself to laugh. “Not uncomfortable, just a little distracted tonight. I’m Hyunjin.” Gods, the way this handsome alpha lit up made his heart flutter this time. His longer cut dark hair fell over his eyes and his cheeks dimpled when he smiled. Tasting those beautiful lips became a burning pain that he fought to squash down.

“Chan."

I know. He stayed silent for a while longer just to see what he would do.

“That bad?”

Inside, Hyunjin screamed. Outside though he gave a tiny shrug. “Maybe I picked the wrong drink.”

Chan glanced towards the bartender and waved him over. “Then let me help.”

Most alphas used moments like this to assert themselves and order for the omega. To crowd their space and let instinct masquerade as confidence. Chan didn't. He turned back to him first and asked permission. “Can I?”

It was simple and polite and Hyunjin nearly fell from his seat. Instead, he dipped his head. “Ummm, sure?”

Chan ordered something lighter and sweeter. It was thoughtful and he slid the fresh drink towards him. “No pressure to like it,” he said with that dimpled smile. “I just guessed.”

Hyunjin took a sip and it was perfect. He hated that too. “You guessed right.”

Chan smiled even harder. “Lucky me.”

They talked for a while after that. And Hyunjin, who usually only pretended to be interested, found himself genuinely listening. Chan was unexpectedly sweet and gentle in ways that felt dangerous. He asked questions and actually listened to answers. And when Hyunjin spoke, Chan kept eye contact instead of scanning his body.

When another alpha brushed too close behind Hyunjin, Chan shifted, not touching, just placing himself enough between them to create space. It was protective without possession. And at one point, Hyunjin reached for a napkin at the exact time Chan did and their fingers brushed.

Chan immediately pulled back. “Sorry.”

Hyunjin blinked in confusion. Sorry? Most alphas would have held contact longer and used it to test boundaries. Chan only smiled sheepishly.

“You go first!”

Hyunjin stared at him for half a breath too long and then took the napkin. “Thanks.” Later, when he deliberately let his sleeve slip to expose an old scar, a trick that usually triggered pity or opportunistic closeness, Chan's eyes caught it but he didn't grab him. He didn't demand an explanation and he didn't pry.

He simply asked, very quietly,  “are you okay?”

That almost unraveled him because he had learned long ago that care was weakness and Chan had asked like the answer mattered. As though Hyunjin were something fragile and worth handling carefully and not like he was sitting inches from something monstrous.

He just smiled softly and let his ‘omega’ scent curl sweeter. “I am now.” It was practiced and perfect and usually enough. Chan's ears reddened, actually reddened and he nearly laughed. An alpha blushing, ridiculous. And yet, it was strangely disarming.

Hours passed too quickly and the bar emptied. The music softened and rain started to tap lightly against the dark windows outside.

Chan finally stood and stretched as he brought the night to a close. “I should probably let you get home safe.”

Hyunjin tilted his head. “You’re leaving?” It was a subtle lure where most alphas would have heard invitation and taken it greedily. Chan only rubbed the back of his neck.

“I don't want to assume.”

Again. Permission and boundaries. Care. Everything Hyunjin thought he hated and everything he had never known how to answer. Slowly standing, he let his shoulder brush against Chan’s, close enough to stir instinct and for scent to deepen. “You’re thoughtful.”

Chan smiled. “My birth pack said being big doesn't mean being entitled.”

Hyunjin's eyes darkened almost imperceptibly. What kind of alpha had been raised like that? What kind of prey thanked the world instead of taking from it? For the first time in years, he felt something dangerous shift beneath his ribs as his fascination sharpened deeper into obsession. Chan wasn't just another alpha. He was kind, and kindness would make him easier to break.

So, he let Chan walk him into the rainy night. He let the alpha hold the door and let him offer his coat when the wind bit too sharply. And beneath the sweet pheromones and lowered lashes, he was already planning on how close he would let Chan get before destroying him.

Chan is mine.

Rain slicked the streets in silver as Chan walked Hyunjin home to his apartment. Hyunjin stayed tucked beneath the alpha's coat, letting the fabric draped around his shoulders with borrowed warmth. His carefully crafted omega scent still curled sweet and soft into the damn night air. A lie.

Chan held the door to the building open and checked in with Hyunjin yet again. “You sure this is okay?” he asked. “I don't want to just assume I’m invited upstairs. My friends say I tend to read into things too much sometimes.”

Hyunjin glanced over his shoulder with a gentle expression. “You ask permission a lot.”

“That a bad thing?” Chan huffed in a quiet laugh. He was always this way and thought nothing of it despite the teasing he got from his friends.

“It’s…different.”

Chan just shrugged as they stepped inside. “Unusual isn't always bad.”

Again, Hyunjin's jaw ticked. There it was again, that decency and thoughtfulness Chan always carried around. “You can come up. The weather is getting worse out there and you might catch a cold going home in it.”

Chan smiled and followed, hands carefully kept to himself despite how his body betrayed him. Hyunjin could smell it. Arousal. It was warm and sharp, alpha heat beneath his storm soaked skin. It was carefully controlled but it hit Hyunjin like an insult. Even this one, this alpha was still reacting and wanting him. His lip almost curled but he forced softness into his expression.

Inside his apartment, low light cast warm shadows across the wooden floors and dark shelves. It was minimalist and neat, easy to pack up and go whenever he needed to.

Chan stepped in and immediately stopped by the door. “You’ve got a nice place.”

Shutting the door behind them, Hyunjin gave him a cute smile and shed the soggy coat. “You sound surprised?”

Smiling back, Chan shrugged. “I just expected more plants. You seem like someone who would own too many plants.”

That nearly pulled an involuntary laugh out of him. “That’s a strange assumption.”

“Was I wrong?”

Well, he really wasn't. “...I have three. But only three!” Chan just grinned and he turned away from him. This was getting dangerous and he was irritated by how smooth this alpha was. “Drink?”

Still polite, Chan answered him as he let his eyes wander around the clean space. “Waters fine.”

Their fingers brushed when Hyunjin handed him a glass a few minutes later and Chan inhaled sharply. He smelled that spike again and the alphas' arousal deepened even hotter now. It pissed him off and not because Chan had acted on it, but because he hadn't. He was still gentle and maddeningly genuine while his instincts screamed. Hyunjin stepped closer to hurry it along, close enough to let his false omega scent thicken.

“Hyunjin…”

It was a soft warning without demand and Hyunjin tilted his head in confusion. “What?”

Chan looked away with his jaw tight. “You smell….really fucking good.” What was this omega doing to him? He was never this bold with anyone and here he was in a strangers apartment and trying not to get carried away with the most beautiful man he had ever seen.

There it was. Hyunjin's eyes narrowed knowing that Chan was responding to him more now. “You’re blushing.”

“Please don't point that out,” Chan groaned.

Hyunjin stepped even closer. “And if I do?” Teasing would get him there.

All Chan did was lower his voice and still stayed respectful in the omegas home. “Then I'll be embarrassed.”

“Why?”

Meeting his gaze, Chan wondered why Hyunjin wasn't getting it. “Because I'm trying very hard not to make you uncomfortable. The rain should be passing in the next hour or so. I can hang out in the living room if you want to settle in for the night. I'll leave as soon as I can.”

Those words hit like a blade and Hyunjin hated it because this man was still being sweet. At least, he thought he hated it. So, he played into it and let his hand drift lightly over Chan’s chest. It wasn't intimate but it was just enough that Chan froze. “You’re tense.”

“For very obvious reasons.”

Hyunjin leaned in, breath warm near his throat. “Do you want to leave?”

Swallowing, Chan shook his head. That was the last thing he wanted to do. He wanted to pin the omega to a bed and knot him until morning. “No.”

“Do you want me to stop?” There was a small silence and then Hyunjin got his answer.

“No. I don't."

Perfect omega. Perfect lure. Hyunjin grabbed his hand and led him towards the bedroom and damn it, Chan followed like he was walking into something fragile and far from dangerous.

Inside of the room, moonlight and lightning spilled though the thin curtains. Clean, dark sheets blanketed the large bed and hid the cold metal beneath where no one would notice. Hyunjin sat on the edge of the bed and Chan, he stopped several feet away.

“You okay?” Chan asked him. It was odd how there wasn't an ounce of nervousness in this bold omega.

Hyunjin stared at him because even now, in his bedroom, Chan was still asking. It made something ugly twist inside of him. “You really are strange,” Hyunjin said quietly.

“That…” Chan blinked. “That sounded mildly insulting.”

Getting up, Hyunjin crossed the distance between them and then pushed him backwards until the backs of Chan’s knees hit the mattress. Chan sat hard, Hyunjin climbing over him and guiding him down. The alpha's breathing deepened but his hands stayed at Hyunjin's waist loosely.

The omega just pressed his body weight into him, knees going to his sides and then pushing him further up the bed to get comfortable. “Hyunjin,” he murmured, voice rough as arousal crept in harder. “Tell me if—”

“Enough.” Something inside of Hyunjin snapped. He was tired of waiting and tired of the sincerity. He hated looking into the warm brown eyes that treated him like something worth caring about.

Chan saw it happening. One second Hyunjin's face was soft and then it wasn't. The omega's eyes darkened, warmth draining into something cold and feral and then, his scent shifted violently. Vanilla and rain rotted into something harsh. It was all metal and smoke, blood on steel and just…wrong. It felt predatory and Chan went still beneath the omega. “Hyunjin—”

CLACK. Metal cuffs snapped around Chan’s wrists from hidden restraints beneath the bed frame, locking hard. “What the hell!?” Chan jerked hard and pulled but the chains tightened, trapping him there while Hyunjin climbed off of him, slow and graceful. The way he was watching him with a gleam of madness in his eyes told him that he was in danger.

Chan's shock lasted half a breath and then Hyunjin watched something fascinating happen. The man's alpha surfaced, violent and instinctive. Chan's scent exploded into the room with dominance that crashed out like thunder. His shoulders squared and his eyes sharpened, his voice dropping into something dangerous. “What the fuck is this?”

Hyunjin smiled wider and Chan yanked hard against the restraints. Metal screamed and the bedframe shuddered, again and again. Muscles flexed violently as he fought the restraints.

“Get these off of me!”

“No.” Hyunjin simply folded his arms.

Chan snarled, a raw alpha sound that rattled the room. “You think I won't break free?”

Hyunjin just stepped forward, delighted that they were finally here. He felt that feral edge to whatever he was creeping in as his body slipped into that enigmatic rut it always did when presented with his victims. “I know you won't."

Chan twisted hard enough to bruise his wrists when from the ‘omega’, alpha scent replaced it, and then the beginnings of arousal. He was literally screwed if he didn't get out of this. Chain links rattled and his chest heaved. “You fucking lied to me. What did I ever do to you?”

Crouching beside the bed while Chan struggled, he studied every ounce of fury from the gorgeous alpha. He saw the flashes of betrayal and every fracture of realization. “Yeah. I lied.” He leaned back when Chan lunged anyway, restrained arms straining violently against the metal. Hyunjin just watched with bright, hungry eyes as the rut of whatever he was closed in. He was enjoying every second of this. “You were too sweet,” he murmured.

Chan's jaw clenched. “What?”

“Too genuine. Too kind.” For the first time, confusion cut through the rage and that fascinated Hyunjin even more. Chan strained again, furious as alpha instincts crashed uselessly against steel. Hyunjin only sat back on his heels and watched him fight. Like he had watched him for weeks.

A dark gleam sharpened in Hyunjin's eyes. “Now,” he whispered almost tenderly. “Let's see what kind of alpha you really are when kindness can't save you.”
