Episode 2: "The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest"

Summary:

Mike aggravates Double-D as she adjusts to life at LIBRA. Kimiko and the other Cavaleta cadets finally prepare for their escape. Ulrich finds his life upended by the Keepers' new powers.

Series summary:

First they came for the immigrants.

Then the opposition.

Then the enemies abroad.

Then the enemies within - of which, naturally, there were always plenty.

And then, when there was nobody else left, they started going after each other.

The Keepers have been in power for 15 years, but their grip is slipping. Desperate times entail desperate measures.

Now those caught in the middle - on all sides - are drawn into the conflict.

Whether they want to be or not.

Open on JAECKEL, suited and bespectacled, leaning across a table.

CUT to POV shot that approaches the stage on which STAHL is standing —

erich jaeckel (cont'd, v.o.)will allow the Interior Ministry to take more preemptive action.

— as CROCKER takes aim and fires. STAHL keels over backwards and the crowd erupts in a frenzy.

CROCKER holds the gun aloft —

denzel crockerFor the revolution — !!

— before placing it in his mouth and firing a second time.

CUT to armed police in riot gear bursting in —

And the heads of the LIBRA cell members turning in surprise —

erich jaeckel (v.o.)We’ll know that our enemies’ attacks are coming —

— and then briefly back to JAECKEL —

erich jaeckel (cont'd)Even before they do.

— before the police's semi-automatics open fire.

CUT to GENERAL SKARR, hunched conspiratorially to speak to his interlocutor —

general skarrI want you to dig into this for me.

— and to DORÉN, his face lit up as he scrutinizes a bright screen —

general skarr (cont'd, v.o.)Whatever evidence you can find.

— on which a white crosshair forms around CROCKER’s pixelated face in a crowd.

general skarr (cont'd, v.o.)The survival of this whole apparatus may be at stake.


EDDY is shoved roughly from behind and sent flailing into the (barely) waiting arms of ED and DOUBLE-D; they all look back at his assailant —

eddy costello (v.o.)What's your name, kid?

— a determined and defiant looking-MIKE (in MEDIUM CLOSE-UP).

mike masinski (v.o.)Mike Masinski.

edd whiteWhy do you keep following us?

MIKE sits on the floor, temporarily bested, as EDDY turns away. She surges up and rushes him —

mike masinski (v.o.)Because I want to join you.

— but he easily catches both the punches he tries to throw. They stare each other out.

eddy costello (v.o.)Hey, this kid's all right.

He grins and ruffles her hair, making her laugh —

eddy costello (v.o., cont'd)She’s a scrapper.

— before cutting back to him (in MEDIUM CLOSE-UP).

eddy costello (cont'd)We can use that.

He, MIKE and ED round the corner into Charlie Cell —

eddy costello (cont'd)Yo, guys, we got a new —

— but stop in their tracks, along with DOUBLE-D, at the sight of the devastation inside.

DOUBLE-D delicately smoothes back INGRID’s hair, horrified.

edd white (v.o.)We need to get back to base.

TWO-SHOT of ED and MIKE staring dumbfounded as he issues his instructions.

edd white (cont'd)It’s the only place we can know won’t be compromised.

Continues over CUT to HIGH-ANGLE as he and EDDY flee back up the corridor away from camera.


RAIMUNDO crouches low to address the group clustering closely around him.

raimundo pedrosaWe stay prepped, we stay good to go at any time.

The camera alights separately on OMI, CLAY and KIMIKO.

raimundo pedrosa (cont'd, v.o.)We didn't come this far to get caught.

As he finishes, CUT to a barracks at dawn as "HECKLE", "JECKLE" and "LOVERBOY" pile in with their makeshift coshes on their respective targets —

And then to LOVERBOY peering in through the slats of a locker, his arms pressed against the door.

"loverboy"(calls through)Come on out, Kimi.

CUT away to KIMIKO huddled in the shadows inside the locker —

"loverboy" (cont'd, o.s.)(from other side)I know you're in there.

— before back to "LOVERBOY" again.

"loverboy" (cont'd, o.s.)Come out!

CUT to a rainy field in the early dawn outside, in which RAI, CLAY and OMI are forced to do press-ups as "LOVERBOY", "HECKLE" and "JECKLE" look on and taunt them.

raimundo pedrosa (v.o.)We need Xenia to come through for us.

kimiko tohomiko (v.o.)She will.

Slow ZOOM IN on KIMIKO as she listens nervously over the phone.

kimiko tohomikoXenia...?

A pause, before...

edd white (o.s.)(over phone)"Firefly"?

KIMIKO gasps, her eyes lighting up in relief.

cut to black
