Hiei noticed first. Of course, he did. Not because he cared.
He had no interest in the useless emotional entanglements of humans, spirit guides, half-demons, former thieves, or any combination thereof. Romance, from what he had observed, made people stupid. It dulled instincts. Weakened judgment. Turned capable fighters into distracted fools who lingered too long in doorways and smiled at nothing.
So, no. Hiei did not care. He simply noticed things. That was all.
And what he noticed, one late autumn afternoon at Genkai’s temple, was that the Fox and the Ferry Girl were becoming painfully obvious.
