Hiei Notices First

Summary:

The first to notice was, of course, Hiei. Not that he cared. Or so he told himself. Hiei silently judges Kurama and Botan’s obvious chemistry. [Canon storyline]

Notes:

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho.

Author’s Note: Hi everyone! This fic was born from one simple thought: what if Hiei noticed Kurama and Botan’s chemistry before anyone else? I loved the idea of him silently judging their obvious slow-burn tension while pretending he didn’t care. The autumn setting at Genkai’s temple felt perfect for something soft, quiet, and romantic with falling leaves, cold air, warm tea, and Kurama being effortlessly gentle with Botan. I imagined this a year after the Three Kings Saga, so that would make Yusuke and Kuwabara 19 years old, and Kurama at 21 years old.

I’ve been an avid Kurama x Botan reader/shipper since 2008, and I’m so happy to finally write and share my own stories for this pairing. Thank you for reading! Reviews and thoughts are always welcome.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Hiei noticed first. Of course, he did. Not because he cared.

He had no interest in the useless emotional entanglements of humans, spirit guides, half-demons, former thieves, or any combination thereof. Romance, from what he had observed, made people stupid. It dulled instincts. Weakened judgment. Turned capable fighters into distracted fools who lingered too long in doorways and smiled at nothing.

So, no. Hiei did not care. He simply noticed things. That was all.

And what he noticed, one late autumn afternoon at Genkai’s temple, was that the Fox and the Ferry Girl were becoming painfully obvious.
