Chapter Text
Derek stared at Avery. His face crumpled underneath the helmet obscuring it.
His fist clenched as his form collapsed to the floor.
"....Why'd you say it. Why would you say that Avery."
He couldn't bare to look up. He couldn't bare to look "Avery" in the face. That isn't Avery. That isn't Avery.
He could see their feet. From what he could tell their attire was different. His gaze drifted up slightly. They looked so....elegant. Beautiful. But that isn't Avery. It hurt him to look up enough to see their face, so he stopped.
"Avery" grinned, strolling up to Derek before curtly pulling him up by the arm. They whistled slightly. "Say what, Derek?" They sounded mockingly clueless. Like it had all just been a big game to them. Which it had been. To the king at least.
"You know, it's funny really-" they paused and pulled Derek close until they were face to face. They had taken Avery's kind smile and turned it it into a mocking sneer. "-infinite knowledge, and you can't even save the one person you love most."
"I hate you. I hate you so much Derek. You're just an annoying bug getting in my way. I will torment you. Over and over and over and over. I will give you the one thing you want and then strip it away. You will wish I just killed you instead. You insignificant, worthless, useless wasted flesh, but it's okay, because you are safe here."
Derek stayed silent. It hurt. It hurt so much. It hurt so much to hear Avery say that.
Nonono.
Not Avery.
It's not Avery.
It's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not it's not.
It's not.
...
It can't be.
Avery wouldn't say that.
They wouldn't.
They..
Wouldn't.
"Avery" let go of him and he sunk to the ground once more. His hands we're shaking.
He's never felt so pathetic.
He was supposed to stop this from happening.
He can't even do that.
Maybe Avery is right.
He's just useless, wasted flesh.
