Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Acorn Republic was a peaceful city full of art, colour, tourism, and steady economic growth. The people of Acorn Republic were happy, passionate, and cared a great deal about their home. Everyone did what they could to make their home the best that it could be and spent every waking moment to improve the lives of their peers. Some were cleaning the streets and planting flower beds on the sidewalks, and some were setting up nature parks for plants and wildlife to flourish. Sometimes, an argument or two would arise on the best way to help their home.
A new dream of expansion was circulating throughout the city, spreading new ideas on how they can continue to grow and expand throughout different zones around the world. This dream, shared with a large percentage of the population, had a name: New Yoke City—a paradise where the world can live in wealth and prosperity untied by the bounds of the natural world. “And I promise you, the people of Acorn Republic, me and my family will make this dream a reality! You and the rest of the world will know the true meaning of peace and power! New Yoke City will be the richest, strongest, greatest zone in all of Moebius!” said Mister Doctor Eggman on his podium just in front of Robotnik Tower in a campaign speech that barely pushed the Robotnik family to the top of the polls and won them the election, replacing the Council of Acorn after a decade-long administration.
Ever since the day they won, the entire city budget was diverted to expanding infrastructure and weapons manufacturing, and they had colonized the Sandy Hill Zone, completely covering it in concrete, metal, and electricity. It wasn’t long before the Robotniks released their plans to further expand into the Green Hill Zone, where they would begin construction of Project Yoke. Their investments began a historic economic boom for the industrial markets, but the rest of the population was left behind. Thousands of families not in the Robotniks’ inner circle collapsed into poverty. The richest family in the world suddenly became richer. Parents died from starvation, leaving children in an overwhelmed and underfunded foster care system, many of whom were left on the street, forgotten.
Those who opposed Project Yoke were fed up with the Robotniks dictating the needs of the city they once loved. This was the beginning of the New Yoke Resistance.
