Chapter Text

"My love?" the boo king murmured quietly as he entered the bedroom. He noticed you'd been a little off yesterday, and it seemed whatever was ailing you had worsened. As he floated closer, you answered with a clearly pained grunt, making his brow crease more in worry.

King Boo settled gently on the massive bed beside you. "I can tell you're not dying, so at least that's good."

Despite the discomfort you were in, the ghost pulled a small laugh out of you, though it was quickly squashed as the pain flared again. You groaned, "But I feel like I am…" As you curled up into a tight ball, the king tried to cuddle up to you, but you pushed him away with a whine. "Noooo, you're cold."

"What?!" the ghost barked. "But last time you said the cold helped with pain!"

"That was for a headache. This is different…"

King Boo huffed, "You mortals and your ridiculous bodies," but relented. He grumbled to himself in annoyance until an idea struck. "Would warmth help?"

"Yeah," you sighed, "But you don't have to bring me anything. I already took painkillers and–

"E-EY! Boo!" you whined when he pressed himself up against you again, but paused your complaining in confusion. You ran your hands over his squishy body. "Huh? Why are you warm now?"

Not wanting to explain in words, the king instead opened his fanged maw wide, and you were promptly blasted with blazing hot air as if he were a giant furnace. Your squinting gaze made out a massive fireball sitting on his tongue until his mouth closed again. You blinked tears out of your now-very-dry eyes. "Oh. I forgot you could summon those… That doesn't hurt, right? To hold it like that?"

The boo rolled his eyes. "Do dragons burn their mouths every time they breathe fire?"

You weakly slapped him on the side with a smile. "Okay, stupid question. Noted."

With King Boo now sufficiently heated up, you moved your blanket out of the way and cuddled up against him. The warmth was incredibly soothing. You cozied up right under his face, where he was hottest. The boo warbled happily in response, relaxing further into the bed. "Better not make me too comfortable, my dove, or I'll fall asleep and drop this onto your dumb little head."

"And who would kiss your grumpy face in the morning if mine melted off?" you snickered against him, knowing well he wouldn't let so much as a hair on your head to be grazed.

"Touché, love." With the use of his crown, King Boo adjusted the blankets and pillows surrounding you, making sure you were perfectly nestled in. "Now sleep or whatever it is you humans need."

With a final petering laugh, you allowed your mind to slowly drift away, knowing you were safe and sound with your ghostly king.
