Work Text:
When Seonghwa woke up, there were two things that he immediately noticed. The first was that Hongjoong was not in bed - not all that surprising, considering how often he stayed late in the studio. But what made that fact concerning was the smell of something coming from the kitchen at the same time.
Which meant that Hongjoong was cooking.
Or more likely, burning down their apartment building.
Seonghwa quickly got up, pulled on a pair of boxers from the floor, and padded out of the bedroom. The air wasn't quite smoky, but it was definitely slightly hazy, which Seonghwa confirmed after rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He quickly went back into the bedroom and threw open the window - he definitely did not need the fire alarm going off to add to however badly his morning was about to go.
He swiftly regretted waking up at all when he saw the state of the kitchen. There was a muffin tin and a pan on the stovetop, which at least thankfully looked to be turned off, along with the oven. But on the other counter, Hongjoong seemed to have... breakfast sandwiches? Piled up on a plate next to a box of ziplock bags. Seonghwa couldn't quite make out what was inside the sandwiches but they looked.... not burnt, at least. "Hongjoong? What are you doing?" he mumbled.
Hongjoong nearly jumped out of his pajama pants, since he hadn't noticed Seonghwa entering the kitchen. "Don't scare me like that!"
Of course the toaster popped a moment later, immediately scaring Hongjoong again. He clutched his chest dramatically as he leaned against the counter. Seonghwa stifled a laugh, taking the opportunity to move closer and inspect one of the sandwiches. "You can have one if you're hungry."
Seonghwa raised an eyebrow at Hongjoong. "What's in it?"
"It's nothing crazy, it's just an english muffin with some butter, and a sausage patty, and some eggs with cheese and a little salt."
Seonghwa glances down at the sandwich. "Did you actually make it all yourself?"
Hongjoong beams his little :3 smile. "Mhmm! I video called Wooyoung to make sure I did the eggs right in the oven."
Knowing that Wooyoung was involved, Seonghwa immediately relaxed and no longer saw the plate in front of him as a potential biohazard. He picked up one of the still slightly warm sandwiches and took a bite of it. It was incredibly tasty, far better than he would have expected from his boyfriend. His eyes widened in shock as he chewed and Hongjoong gently punched him in the shoulder. "You don't have to act so surprised! I can do a little bit of cooking!"
Seonghwa tilted his head at Hongjoong, then chose not to say anything else, instead taking another bite of the breakfast sandwich which only made Hongjoong grin wider. He handed Seonghwa a plate, then turned on the microwave for a short burst. Seonghwa raised an eyebrow and Hongjoong replied, "Coffee." Seonghwa nodded. When the microwave was done, Hongjoong pulled out the coffee, handing it to Seonghwa and then gently shooing him out of the kitchen. "I'm almost done, but I'm sure I'll mess something up if you hang around in here."
Before heading over to plop down on the couch, Seonghwa turned back toward the kitchen. "Wait, did you come to bed at all last night? Or have you been up the whole time?" Hongjoong froze and Seonghwa immediately knew he'd caught him staying up all night again. "Please promise you'll go to bed after you're done." Hongjoong rolled his eyes but nodded in agreement so Seonghwa retreated to the couch, turning on the TV to find something to watch while finishing his sandwich.
Once he'd finished up, Hongjoong came over and sat down on the couch next to Seonghwa, who had gone back into the bedroom to put on a pair of sweatpants and a comfy t-shirt, a cute Animal Crossing one with Isabelle on it that read "Vacation Mode" that Hongjoong had gotten him as a silly present for fun. Hongjoong leaned against Seonghwa's arm, gradually sliding down it until he was in a position that looked incredibly uncomfortable while curled up alongside Seonghwa. "Why don't you just go lay in bed?" he asked, but by the time he realized how contorted Hongjoong had become, the ginger man had fallen fast asleep, snoring so gently Seonghwa could barely even hear it. He sighed, patting Hongjoong's head softly before carefully reaching over to grab the controller for the Switch, settling in for a relaxing Saturday playing Animal crossing while Hongjoong caught up on some much needed sleep.
