Apples and petrichor... The scent filled his nose, but his eyes felt too heavy to open. He could feel something solid and warm under his head… A hand brushing through his fur, brushing behind his ear and through the longer fur around his neck.
His body hurt…
His jaws opened for a moment, only for a soft, familiar voice to whisper, “Shh… just rest, pup…”
That wasn't Midna… the voice was male, undeniably so, he couldn't place where he had heard it before. Those fingers moved from his head to his flank, grazing over a claw induced wound, that voice tutting softly. He almost growled from the pain, but seconds later the pain faded. Everything felt warm, like he was floating in the Goron’s hot spring. His lupine brow seemed to relax for a moment as he started to drift off again.
Where was he? Who was this?
He forced his eyes open a crack, seeing a blurry figure leaning over him, blonde hair falling over broad shoulders, a single blue eye gazing down at him. The figure gently shushed him again, that hand moving over his eyes as the fog closed in once more as he finally drifted back off.
Who was that?
His eyes opened again to the sound of Midna snapping at him to wake up, and he grunted, forcing himself to his paws as shadowy beasts surrounded them, his lips pulled back in a snarl.
What he didn't see as he used Midna’s power to attack all three beasts simultaneously, was the Golden Figure of his mentor, watching from on high of the Castle Town Wall.
He didn't see that indescribable look cast back before vanishing in a flash of golden light.
All the Wolf Hero knew, was he had a strange dream… one full of warmth and love from an unknown being.
