Chapter Text
The days after Neteyams passing where the hardest for the for his family, Lo'ak noticed his parents having more conflict arise between them his siblings became easily agitated and Lo'ak himself became more closed off than ever, he felt so alone without his older brother the light that guided him through 14 years of his life now he was alone in the dark without the one person he was so sure would stick around forever. His parents have delt with grief on many occasions, many wars and sad times faced their family, but whenever faced with hard times Neteyam always showed Lo'ak there was a light to move towards, his brother had saved him on countless occasions but when Lo'ak had to return the favour he couldn't, he will always know that if Neteyam hadn't listened to his dumb younger brother that he'd be alive right now, he wouldn't be at the bottom of a place he never felt at home in.
Lo'ak loved the ocean and the beach his family had moved to, he'd adapted so quickly that being apart of the Metkayina clan felt natural...it felt right, what didn't feel natural is his brother being ripped from him, now what once filled Loa'ks soul with happiness fills it with guilt and pain. The ocean he grew to love and find solace in had become filled with the memory of loosing his best friend. After constant fighting with his father Lo'ak didn't know what to do anymore, he knew what Jake had been saying was true he knew he killed his brother, the one constant in his life, the person who he'd always been able to count on no matter how stupid he had been, was gone. Neteyam was gone and he wasn't going to come back. Ever.
He had Kiri and Tuk but he was so alone without the person he thought he'd be looking up to forever, Lo'ak hated that he once resented Neteyam once and wished the last conversation between the two before the fight wasn't an argument he'd wished for a lot of things lately but he'd never wished more than now, out on this dark, cold and empty beach that his big brother would run up to him and save him. He muttered a small prayer to himself, apologising to the great mother for taking an unneeded life, for taking his life, to his own mother for taking her only son left to Jake his father for not being a good soldier or son for him and to his sisters for not being strong for them in the wake of there brothers passing, then he angled the cold gun he'd smuggled from his fathers make shift armoury towards the bottom of his chin let out a small whine, put his finger on the trigger and closed his eyes letting tears leave them unapologetically because if he where to die tonight he will do it feeling all the pain he'd pushed upon everyone around him.
As he began to push down on the cold metal trigger of the rifle that once sat heavy in his shaky grasp it was thrown across the empty desolate beach far out from the warm bustling homes of the Metkayina, shocked Lo'ak looked up through tear clouded eyes to see who'd spotted him all the way out here.
"Sa'nok?" the words wetly left his mouth as the figure who seemed to be his mother fell to their knees and pulled him into the warmest embrace he could've wanted
" you skxawng what where you thinking" the unmistakeable voice of his brother shot through his ears and as he looked up the eyes that met his where unmistakeably Neteyam's
