Chapter Text
It was another dreary day for the lord of the dead. He wondered his kingdom field to field gazing upon his subjects in boredom. At the same time he was making mental notes of problems that would need to be soon addressed. The growing lack of room as more souls filed in, the polluted river that was becoming less visible by the hour, and the holes in his security- he had his upstart nephew to thank for that. His headache was growing steadier by the minute just thinking about it.
He was counting down the seconds until his dear wife’s return from the surface world. She was the only thing able to fix his mood as of late. His judges had all been arguing with each other as well, and attempting to make it his problem. He had to threaten them with dismissal and a trip to the fields of punishment before they stopped. He had almost made it back to the gates of his palace when he sensed one of his least favorite presence.
“Uncle” Perseus started, with his usual lack of respect for Hades position.
“Perseus” he slowly drawled, “whatever brings you to here to disturb my peace?” Honestly he wanted to just smite the brat here and now, but his middle brothers threats only just stayed his hands.
“I… I was wondering if you would be able to answer a question for me?” Perseus shifted nervously from foot to foot and was fiddling with his sword turned pen in his hands. It took his nephew a considerable amount of time to form that sentence. The god could almost feel the waves of dread coming from the boy.
“If it gets you to leave my kingdom faster, then by all means ask away”. He finally answered, looking into his eyes. His nephew looked like he would rather be swimming in the Styx again, and he would never forgive that transgression, than to continue with his sentence. In that moment, Perseus looked remarkably similar to his father in both physical looks and personality traits. His brother would often gain the same look in his eye when Zeus caught him in a lie and demanded an explanation.
“When I was…down in the pit…” his nephew started. Hades drew his eyebrows up, he never expected the boy to come to him of all people to discuss his time in the Greek hell. “I think I might have broke something” he finished all in one breath, speaking quickly.
“Broke what exactly?” He replied, finding himself growing more curious by the second.
“I think… maybe my soul? I’m not really too sure, I was wondering if you could maybe take a look? Especially with your domains and everything” Perseus said while running a hand through his dark hair.
