"Carlos..."
The boy jumped at the very familiar voice. He steeled himself before turning around.
"Harry."
He tried to keep his tone level, but he struggled with his hitched breath. Harry looked him up and down. He lit a cigarette as he approached Carlos. The heel of his boots echoing in the alleyway. Carlos could've ran, could've called for Jay or Evie. But he didn't. He stood his ground, but he would be lying if he said he wasn't ready to dash in the blink of an eye. Harry stopped a few inches front of him and blew some smoke into his face. Carlos breathed it in, missing the smell. They don't allow cigarettes in Auradon, not for teenagers. Harry smirked.
"So, puppy's off the leash, huh?"
He took a drag of his cigarette and Carlos tried to suppress his blush.
"Shut the fuck up, Harry."
Carlos snapped and snarled. Infuriatingly, Harry laughed. One of those loud, shrill laughs that can hurt if you're too close. Carlos huffed and readjusted his stance so that his hand was on his hip. More annoyed than unsettled, now.
"What do you want?" He looked him up and down. "Harry."
Harry shrugged, feigning indifference.
"I just thought I'd come by and check on my dog."
Carlos clenched his jaw. He took a swing at Harry and nailed his cheekbone. Harry had a look of shock on his face when it snapped to the left. He giggled as he turned back around.
"I didn't expect ya to do that, Pup."
Carlos tried to hide his smile.
"Well, a lot's changed since then."
Harry straightened his posture, towering over Carlos. So, Carlos straightened his.
"Aye..."
Their faces gravitated towards each other and before either of them could stop it, their lips touched. It was nothing more than a small peck before Carlos pulled back. Harry looked at him and Carlos waited with baited breath. Harry dropped his cigarette and wrapped his arm around Carlos's waist. He placed his hand on the back of his head and brought him in for another kiss. This one deeper than the last. Carlos relaxed into the embrace but pulled away from the kiss before it could go too far. Harry groaned but he didn't let go of Carlos.
"Why did you pull away?"
"I didn't."
"You did. From the kiss."
Carlos looked at Harry, incredulous.
"The last time we left off, it was with a fight, and now you kiss me?"
Harry furrowed his brows.
"Uhm, no. You kissed me."
Carlos wouldn't be surprised. He had missed him.
"Well, maybe we kissed each other."
Carlos tried to hide his laugh. Harry hugged him tight to his chest.
"Sometimes, Carlos--and I've felt this for so long, but, if the world were to stop and we were offered two tickets off of it...I would so go away with you."
Harry must've been drunk because there's no way he would admit that sober. Carlos hugged him back, but he didn't say anything. He didn't know what to say, so he hoped the tight hug will convey his feelings enough.
"Harry...I--"
The words wouldn't come out. So, he pulled back and surged up to kiss Harry softly. When he pulled back, Harry had a sad, soft look in his eyes. One that Carlos imagines matches his own.
"Carlos!" Jay called from down the alley. Harry jumped out of his daze. He pressed his nose to Carlos's.
"I'll see ye later, Carlos."
He quickly turned around and made his descent into the shadows. Carlos fixed his clothes and hair before turning around, walking towards his friends. He'll miss Harry, but hopefully, they'll get some more alone time before he had to leave.
