Work Text:

Summers were the worst for Yuuta. He hated how heat was inescapable, especially when his classmates decided to drag him out in the courtyard for training.

He whined while Maki took him by the back of his shirt to the outside, “You won’t get stronger sitting in front of the A.C. all day,” She griped.

Yuuta mumbles out pathetic excuses, but walked on his own so she wouldn't end up throwing him to the dirt.

When they reached outside he already saw Panda and Toge fanning each other under a tree. Yuuta pointed at them wordlessly, looking at Maki.

She shrugged, “They trained earlier, now it’s your turn.”

The curse user hung his head, he didn't get to wallow in his depression for long before he had to dodge incoming attacks from Maki.

Training went on for longer than Yuuta would have liked. When it was all over, he fell to the ground in a heap wanting to melt into the ground.

“Kelp?” a voice spoke from above him.

“Oh, Inumaki, hi.” Yuuta said through wheezes, he could've sworn he heard the other laugh.

Yuuta flipped onto his back to look Toge in the eyes, “Is everyone else finished?”

Toge nodded, standing above Yuuta’s head to block the sun.

Yuuta smiled, “Ok, give me a bit to catch my breath, I’ll meet you inside.”

Toge tilted his head, pondering his options: leave his friend out in the heat to shrivel up or help him back to the dorms.

“Salmon,” Toge nodded to himself and knelt down next to the other.

“Inumaki?” was the last thing he said before Yuuta was lifted to the air.

The boy let out a panicked yelp and scrambled to find purchase on something, which happened to be Toge’s shoulders.

“Uh, I can,” Yuuta flushed, not from the heat, “I can walk, Inumaki! I’m fine!”

“Fish flakes,” Toge shook his head, looking straight ahead. Yuuta could catch a slight bit of color from under his collar.

The curse user knew he wouldn’t get through to his friend, so he tucked his head into the crook of Toge’s neck, “Just…don’t let Maki see.”
