Chapter Text
Her father was listening to the radio that morning while she brought him the new reports about Amon. Lately, the Equalist movement had gained new members, so they would need to restock the inventory of electric batons and gloves. In addition, she would have to train the new recruits in the art of chi-blocking and hand-to-hand combat; usually, those who joined the group had no background in fighting or anything similar, so it fell to her and the other high-ranking members of the attack and defense squad to prepare them for the day they struck. Asami would be quite busy in the coming weeks.
As she arranged the papers on her father’s desk, something on the radio caught both their attention. A sudden press conference. That was strange. They had hundreds of spies in the main media outlets and, above all, they had President Raiko eating out of the palm of their hand. After all, Future Industries was the most important urban planning company in all of Republic City; they owned more than seventy percent of the city’s public and private buildings. For a press conference to happen without them knowing was simply unheard of, which meant it had surely been organized by one of the council members and not the president or any of his subsidiaries.
“I’m Korra, your new Avatar! I’m happy to be here! Thank you, Republic City!”
Both father and daughter opened their eyes so wide the gold and emerald of their irises were fully visible. The Avatar was here. Hiroshi turned to look at his daughter and knew that Amon would undoubtedly summon them that night to restructure their plan. Asami simply left her father in the office and headed down to the basement of her mansion. The moment she stepped inside, the scent of oil, metal, and sulfur filled her nose, and she felt at home. She went straight to the phone that provided a direct line to Amon and whispered that he needed to listen to the radio replay that night. The Avatar had arrived in Republic City, and they had to move quickly.
Her plan would be simple: she just needed to get close to the Avatar without being too obvious, and luckily—thanks to that disgusting sport called pro-bending—she now knew the Avatar was a member of a team called the Fire Ferrets. It didn’t take her long to find out who they were and, more importantly, the schedule of the older brother. He would be her way into the Avatar’s life. Or at least, that was what her father, Hiroshi, had told her. So before carrying out her plan, she had to prepare herself so that Mako—the firebender’s name—would not be able to refuse a date with her. To do that, she decided to enhance her omega scent slightly with perfume; at last, she could use the pheromones she had spent so many years suppressing for something useful.
Once everything was ready, Asami set her plan in motion. She mounted her motorbike and headed to where the young man worked in the mornings when he wasn’t training. She chose the long route; after all, she still had some time, and driving was one of her great passions. Since she was twelve, Asami had practiced on the go-kart track at the mansion. By thirteen, she could assemble and disassemble a satomobile with her eyes closed and drive it flawlessly. By fifteen, she was an expert in operating practically every kind of vehicle: cars, scooters, airships, small planes, boats of all kinds, and even large trucks.
After enjoying her small ride, she made her way toward her target. Her original plan had been to pretend to be a fan who recognized him; however, a satomobile blocked her view of the factory entrance where Mako worked, and suddenly she saw the firebender step out from in front of the car. Thanks to her driving skills, she managed to maneuver so that the damage to the young man wasn’t too serious. If her motorbike had even a scratch, she swore that when all this was over she would personally deliver the firebender to Amon so that, once his powers were taken, she could give him the same treatment he had given her vehicle. Asami dismounted and put on her best performance as an innocent omega.
“Oh no, I’m so sorry! I didn’t see you!”
“How could you not see me!? I was—” Mako couldn’t finish what he was about to say. Asami removed her helmet, and immediately her pheromones and beauty left him speechless. “I… was… uh… omega… I—uh.”
“Are you okay? Did I hurt you?” asked the Sato heiress, stepping closer so her pheromones could do their work; judging by the blush on his face, she knew they were effective. “Oh no, I was so foolish.”
“Wait, I know you,” Asami began, setting her plan in motion. “You’re Mako, right? You play for the Fire Ferrets!”
“Yeah, that’s me,” the firebender smiled, beginning to release a hint of beta pheromones. Asami forced herself not to wrinkle her nose.
“I’m embarrassed, my name is Asami,” she introduced herself, extending her hand with a smile. “Let me make it up to you. How about I take you to dinner? Tomorrow night at eight, at Kwong’s Cuisine.”
“Kwong’s? I don’t… have appropriate clothes.” Asami had her back turned, so she didn’t see him roll his eyes.
She climbed onto her motorbike and gave him one last smile.
“I’ll take care of that. You just have to be there.” Without losing her flirtatious gaze, Asami put her goggles back on. “So, is it a date?”
“Yeah, I guess,” Mako replied, still somewhat flushed. “I’ll… I’ll see you tomorrow night.”
Asami rode off with a smile; everything was going according to plan. Once she was far enough away, she turned on her radio to listen to Amon’s reports and those of the other high-ranking members. Her brow furrowed when she heard that at the previous night’s meeting the Avatar had infiltrated with unknown triad benders. If she had been there, perhaps the Avatar wouldn’t have escaped, but unfortunately she and her father had been busy finishing gloves for recruits who couldn’t chi-block and had to skip the meeting. It didn’t matter. She would personally deliver the Avatar to Amon.
After stopping by the Future Industries workshop and completing her daily tasks, she decided it was time to report to her father. She wiped the oil from her face, removed her gloves, and put on her jacket before going to see him. She greeted Hiroshi’s assistant and asked to be let in; the woman simply opened the door, and she stepped inside. The office was spacious, with red carpet and brown walls that gave it a certain Fire Nation aura. After all, her father had come from one of its colonies before meeting her mother and moving to Republic City. A large portrait of her mother hung on one wall, a constant reminder of why they did all this.
“What news do you have for me? I assume you already know what happened at last night’s meeting.”
Hiroshi didn’t even look at her. Asami knew her condition was a source of shame for him, and it was understandable—who would want an omega daughter? That was why she took suppressants even when she wasn’t in heat; she didn’t want to cause him more humiliation than she had by birth.
“Yes, Father. But I have good news.” She approached the desk and placed a finished prototype of a lighter glove on it. “The firebender agreed to dinner tomorrow night. If I can get him to introduce me to the Avatar, I’ll be closer to earning her trust and bringing her to our hideout.”
“Excellent,” Hiroshi said, examining the glove with curiosity. Her condition might embarrass him, but her mind compensated for that flaw. “This could work for chi-blockers. Make it lighter.”
“Understood.”
“Asami,” Hiroshi called, stopping her as she turned to leave. “Take off that disgusting perfume. You know I hate it when my daughter smells like an omega.”
“Yes, Father.”
That night, sooner rather than later, the time for her date with Mako arrived. As she got ready, she couldn’t help thinking how unpleasant the situation was. She wanted to be out there training the new recruits, building the weapons Amon had requested alongside Hiroshi, but instead she had to play the part of the rich girl with a firebender—the same kind of scum who had murdered her mother for money. The hatred and resentment she felt toward them was immense, but she had to swallow it until she could gain access to the element master and focus all her attention on her. For now, she had to concentrate on making Mako drool over her.
She put on the perfume again to make her pheromones more prominent and left the mansion. Her father was surely with Amon planning everything; when she returned, she would have to ask how it had gone. She stopped by a suit shop to arrange what Mako would need and then Hiroshi’s personal driver took her to Kwong’s restaurant. It was one of the few places that served authentic Fire Nation cuisine, and in some way that comforted her. That was why she had chosen it for this mission. Before her companion arrived, she ordered a cup of spiced tea to steady her nerves. She would have preferred to be at the Future Industries workshop rather than there.
When the appointed time arrived, she was surprised that Mako showed up punctually; at least he had a sense of timing. Once dressed properly, he looked like someone from her own social class, and to her displeasure, she had to admit he was attractive. Perhaps, if he were a non-bender, she might even have considered dating him outside the façade she was constructing. She ordered the usual menu she chose when dining with companions—usually the sons and daughters of Hiroshi’s associates—and displayed the social skills she was strangely proud of. She had to thank her father for forcing her to attend all those galas and charity events.
“I’m a huge pro-bending fan. I watched all your matches this season,” Asami smiled; she had paid one of her mechanics to give her a detailed summary of every game.
“All of them? Wow… honestly, there are some I wish you hadn’t seen,” Mako replied nervously.
“Oh, don’t be ridiculous. You’re incredible. I can’t wait to see you play in the tournament.”
“Yeah, well… maybe next year.”
“What do you mean next year? You qualified,” Asami asked with feigned concern, perhaps this was her opening.
“It’s just… right now it’s not in the cards for us.”
Asami gently took the beta’s hand, wearing her best empathetic expression to draw out more information.
“Tell me, what’s the problem?”
“We don’t have the money to cover our share of the championship fee. So it looks like we’re out.”
Bingo. She had an opportunity. She would have to discuss it with Hiroshi, but this could give her not only access to the Avatar but also proximity without needing excuses.
The date ended exactly when she had planned. She offered Mako the chance to meet her father under the pretext that he was the inventor of the satomobile. The young man had been impressed when he learned who she was, and she used that to her advantage. Now he knew she was his only chance to participate in that disgusting pro-bending competition. She said goodbye and climbed into the satomobile where Hiroshi’s driver was waiting to take her home. The plan had gone better than expected, and truthfully, she couldn’t wait to meet the Avatar. She was surely imposing—but so was she.
Hiroshi agreed to bring the firebender to the workshop. Apparently, he approved of his daughter’s reasoning, and that was a small but significant victory for Asami. She was getting closer to the day her father would look at her for what she truly was—his daughter, not just the omega he had the misfortune of creating. She went to bed after bathing, not wanting her scent to manifest. From her nightstand, she took her suppressants and swallowed them as she did every night.
Now that she thought about it, she knew Mako was a beta—but what would the element master be? No one knew anything about her except her name, which she had honestly forgotten. She was probably a beta or an omega like herself. It was rare for a woman to be an alpha, so she wasn’t worried about her own biology betraying her. With that in mind, she decided it was time to sleep. Tomorrow, the gears would begin turning for the fall of the benders and the Avatar.
She couldn’t believe what was happening—a party in honor of the Avatar? It was absurd. The element master had barely been seen outside the pro-bending arena, always under Tenzin’s supervision or that of a White Lotus member. Yet Hiroshi had told her she had to attend, and fortunately she would bring Mako and Bolin with her. That way, she would give the girl the impression she was not a threat—if her friends trusted her, then perhaps she could as well. She applied her lipstick and wore her best dress, one that would outshine even nearby omegas. This time she chose not to wear the perfume she had used with Mako, but one that masked her natural omega scent so as not to attract unwanted alpha attention. No one knew that Hiroshi’s daughter was an omega, and she intended to keep it that way. She looked at herself in the mirror one last time and knew she was ready. She was fully aware of how beautiful she was, and she would not hesitate to use it as a weapon to achieve her father’s goals.
Korra felt incredible. The venue hosting the party was dazzling. In the Southern Water Tribe, they barely had large spaces; warmth was preserved better in small places. The golden hues of the hall shimmered around her, and the mingling scents of alphas and omegas fascinated her. Back home, as not only the Avatar but also an alpha, she had been confined most of her life, allowed out only to visit her parents or take Naga for brief walks during meditation hours. She couldn’t help sniffing the air—there were so many different scents she might have burst with excitement. But one in particular caught her attention. Sweet, subtle, barely perceptible—perhaps vanilla with faint notes of gunpowder. An unusual combination, yet it made her chest rumble softly in appreciation. Her alpha liked it. It was calling to her. An unbonded omega. That struck her as odd. She had been surrounded by omegas within the White Lotus compound and had even scented a few in heat, but her inner alpha had never reacted like this before.
Asami watched as Bolin devoured everything he could from the appetizer table as if he had never seen food in his life—though, considering what Mako had told Hiroshi, that made sense. She couldn’t help letting out a genuine laugh at the sight of the good-natured earthbender acting like the happiest person in the world while tasting delicacies he had likely only dreamed of. Perhaps, if the brothers weren’t benders, there might have been a chance she could see them as friends.
Friends… It was something Asami didn’t know. After her mother’s death, Hiroshi had decided it was best for her to cut contact with others. He couldn’t risk her befriending a bender, and besides, her condition would only bring complications if she lived too freely.
Asami continued observing the party when a scent unlike anything she had ever encountered reached her nose. Exquisite—like the sea with a hint of warm milk and honey. It was unusual, yet comforting. Her omega stirred involuntarily, a subtle vibration in her chest alerting her to the reaction. What was happening? She had been surrounded by alphas and betas countless times, and none of their scents had ever drawn her omega to the surface like this. It felt like a balm.
Without meaning to, she inhaled again, wanting to savor the potent aroma. An alpha? No—alphas usually carried sharper, spiced undertones. This was warm. Enveloping. Perhaps some artificial fragrance meant to prevent conflicts among secondary genders at the party. Still, why was she reacting like this?
Meanwhile, as Tenzin dealt with Meelo—who had apparently mistaken a potted plant for a bathroom—Tarrlok intercepted Korra while she was alone. The councilman had been trying to persuade her to join his task force against Amon, and she had repeatedly refused. Officially, she claimed she needed to focus on her airbending training with Tenzin and prepare for the Fire Ferrets’ finals. In truth, Korra was afraid. She had seen what Amon could do. Bending was part of a bender’s soul—their chi was directly tied to their power. The thought of losing it was horrifying.
Before she could refuse again, Tarrlok was already guiding her forward.
“Korra, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to the most important businessman in Republic City,” he said, gesturing toward a tall man with glasses. “Hiroshi Sato.”
“It’s a pleasure,” Korra replied politely.
“We all expect great things from you,” Hiroshi said with a measured smile.
“Yes, of course,” Korra answered, uncertain, feeling the weight of expectations pressing down on her.
At that moment, she heard Mako calling her name. Her heart skipped. The beta had made a strong impression on her—serious, attractive, mysterious. Or at least, that was what she thought until she saw her.
A beautiful girl with black hair, pale skin, and emerald eyes that shimmered gold under the lights. And then the scent hit her fully—sweet vanilla with faint gunpowder. Her instincts surged.
Omega.
Korra had to steady herself, clearing her throat and silently begging the spirits for self-control.
“She’s my daughter, Asami,” Hiroshi introduced with a smile.
The moment Asami stood close enough, the sea-and-honey scent intensified. It came from her. From the Avatar. Her chest vibrated again, and she fought to contain it. Why did the bronzed girl’s scent call to her like this?
“Nice to meet you. Mako’s told me a lot about you,” Asami managed smoothly.
“Yeah, I—uh—Korra,” the Avatar replied, visibly less composed.
When their hands touched, both felt the spark.
“How did you meet?” Korra asked after a moment.
“She ran him over with her motorbike,” Bolin chimed in with a grin, breaking the tension.
Later, after Korra had been scolded by Lin and felt worse about her duties, Asami approached her.
“Korra, would you like to get something to drink? You look like you could use a break.”
Korra nodded, following her.
Before leaving, Asami glanced back. Hiroshi gave her a subtle nod. The plan had begun.
She guided Korra to a more secluded balcony. The sea breeze diluted the overwhelming scent enough for her to breathe. Music drifted softly from inside, creating an intimate atmosphere that felt dangerously personal.
“You seemed like you needed air,” Asami said with a calculated smile.
“Yeah… thanks,” Korra replied, blushing slightly. “I’m not really good at these things. I haven’t had much social interaction.”
“I noticed.”
Asami placed her hand over Korra’s again—and immediately regretted it. The contact sent a jolt through her, settling low in her abdomen. Korra’s scent deepened, richer now. Asami discreetly bit the inside of her cheek to maintain composure.
“So… you’re a Sato? Your dad invented the satomobile?” Korra asked, carefully withdrawing her hand.
“Yes. Though we don’t limit ourselves to that. We also build vehicles, electronics, buildings—schools.”
“Really? What kind of buildings?”
Korra stepped closer without realizing it, captivated. Asami retreated instinctively until her back met the railing. They were inches apart.
“The engineering school,” Asami answered, her voice quieter now.
Korra noticed the proximity and abruptly stepped back, creating space between them.
“Huh… it’s incredible.”
“Th-thank you,” Asami replied, flushed for perhaps the first time in her life.
Before she could continue, Tarrlok called Korra away again. The Avatar gave Asami one last look before leaving.
Alone, Asami leaned against the railing, breathing unevenly. Years of discipline, of control, felt suddenly fragile. She had mastered her biology—she could endure rooms full of alphas without flinching. Yet Korra’s mere presence threatened to undo all of it.
She steadied herself when another scent approached—her father’s. Hiroshi joined her at the balcony, observing the distant silhouette of Air Temple Island.
“I see the Avatar has taken an interest in you,” he said evenly. “Perhaps we can use that.”
“Of course.”
“Invite her—and her two lapdogs—to the mansion. Be a good hostess. Extract information.”
“Yes, Father.”
That night, Asami stayed awake a little longer than usual, gazing out her window at Air Temple Island. Mako had told her that Korra lived there to train her airbender, which meant she wasn't a complete Avatar yet. This could be advantageous; an incomplete Avatar meant she lacked experience and, above all, the ability to use one of her bending abilities. All of this should please her. Her enemy was weaker than she thought, and yet she could only look longingly at the place where the alpha who had violently awakened her omega resided.
With a sigh, she finally decided to go to bed, hoping that tomorrow she would return to her usual mindset. The benders were her enemies; they used their bending abilities to take advantage of non-benders. They had taken her mother from her, and that was something she mustn't forget, no matter how much the Avatar's sweet scent called to her. She closed her eyes and decided to simply drift off to sleep. She was exhausted, and tomorrow would be another challenging day.
When Asami awoke, darkness still reigned in her room, but it felt heavy and thick, as if the blackness were suffocating her and making her body react with need. To mate. To please. A tingling in her groin made her whimper with discomfort, and it was then that she perceived it. Ocean, milk, and honey. A fragrance that, for better or worse, she already knew belonged to.
She opened her eyes wide, and there she was, at the foot of her bed, like an apparition emerging from the darkness. Korra. The Avatar wasn't smiling. Her gaze was a black hole of desire, an icy blue that devoured her with a ferocity that chilled her to the bone and excited her. It wasn't a look; it was a command, and she was more than willing to obey. Asami felt the primal urge to submit, to kneel before the young brunette and take her member in her mouth. But she managed to restrain herself. She was her enemy, she was surely there to kill her. Yes, that's what she had to do. She had to stand up and attack.
Korra moved without making a sound, with an imposing presence. Anyone else would have bowed their head at her mere presence, but not her. In an instant, without her knowing how, the Avatar was already on top of her, pressing her body against hers. There was no push, only an irresistible pressure. One hand closed around her wrists with enough force to immobilize her, raising them above her head and pinning them to the mattress. The other hand traveled the length of her leg, not with a caress, but with possession. Korra's palm felt Asami's skin as if she were marking it, and with a sure movement, she lifted her leg to open a path, settling between them, her entrance brushing against the prominent bulge between her thighs.
The Avatar's breath, warm and heavy with that intoxicating scent, burned the skin of her neck. Asami exhaled a stifled gasp, a mixture of fear and a pleasure that shamed her. She felt the sharp edge of Korra's teeth nipping lightly at her neck, denying her what she most desired: to be marked, to be possessed by this young woman with cinnamon skin and sea-blue eyes. And that frustrated her. A low, deep purr vibrated in Asami's chest, a betrayal of her own body that she couldn't control. She was enjoying her own submission to the alpha as the omega she truly was.
Korra left her neck and her lips crashed against Asami's. It wasn't a kiss; it was a declaration. She was hers. The Avatar's tongue entered without permission, dominant, exploring and claiming every inch of her mouth like newly discovered territory. Korra's hands were a fiery map on her skin, memorizing every curve, every tremor, every involuntary response of the omega under her power.
Suddenly, Korra flipped her over with extreme ease, placing her on her hands and knees, her back arched in a position of absolute submission, vulnerable and exposed. She would never have humiliated herself like this, and yet, there she was, presenting herself to the alpha, ready to be taken by her enemy; and the worst part was, she was enjoying it. All those instincts she had suppressed for so many years were surfacing. Korra leaned over her, her breasts brushing against her back, causing her to sigh again at the gentle touch. When she grabbed her hair and pulled, exposing her neck, a moan escaped her; the pain was incredibly pleasurable. Just as she felt the pressure of Korra's member against her entrance, hot, hard, and wet, Asami's eyes snapped open.
She sat up in bed with a stifled cry. Sweat covered her forehead, making her nightgown stick to her skin. Her heart pounded, as if it were about to burst from her chest; between her legs, a burning wetness reminded her of the harsh reality of her dream. With a rough, careless movement, she opened the drawer of her nightstand.
While young Sato had her own problems, Korra wasn't far behind. Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, regretting her decision to join the squad against Tarrlok's Equalists, her mind wandered back to the green-eyed girl. Never in her life had she seen such a beautiful young woman; her scent was sweet, a blend of vanilla and a hint of gunpowder. She'd never encountered an omega with such a contrasting aroma, sweet with a mineral undertone. When she met Mako, she'd found him attractive, but Asami… Asami was different. Something about her simply compelled her to be near her.
She turned to her side, gazing at the city, wondering if she'd done the right thing, but more than anything, she wondered if a certain omega had been as affected as she had been. Perhaps if Korra had been more experienced, she might have sensed the wetness between Asami's legs, her racing heartbeat, and, above all, how the omega's pheromones had more than accepted her presence. He still remembered feeling the tip of his member emerge from its folds, ready to possess the young Sato. Korra groaned softly and turned over, placing the pillow over her face. It was best not to think; she had more important things to worry about than her disastrous love life. And yet, she could still smell Asami's scent lingering on her skin. She sighed again, this time wishing she could hold the green-eyed girl in her arms.
